How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
Apparently, I do not have any new goal except concentrating on my charcoal selling business which normally helps me cater to my family's needs.
In your opinion, what does GiveDirectly do well, and what does it not do well?
What I loved about the organization is that they were committed to uplifting our living standards. Nothing indeed went wrong
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
Having received the second transfer, I bought 3 goats which cost KES 15000 and poultry whose value was KES 4200. These will come in handy should need arise. Additionally, part of the second transfer was utilized in completing my house whose construction was pioneered by the first transfer. My husband and I do sell charcoal to make ends meet. I am glad that we have a modest and spacious house where everyone is comfortable with. Thanks to GiveDirectly, we would still be confined in a tiny room called a house.

Describe the moment when you received your money. How did you feel?
I heard my phone vibrate and was just at home.I heard my phone vibrate and upon checking, it was a confirmation of the receipt of my first transfer.I broke the news to my entire family and we broke into a celebratory mood.
Describe the biggest difference in your daily life since you started receiving payments from GiveDirectly.
The biggest difference in my daily life is having a place to call home.Construction of a new house has brought so much joy in my family. We are grateful and we look forward to our second transfer so that we can have more transformation in our household.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
Upon withdrawal of my first transfer, I spent KES 50,000 to purchase iron sheets, nails and timber towards construction of a modern two roomed house. We had been living in a smaller one that served as both as a kitchen, sitting area and bedroom. The new house will give us privacy as parents. The house is almost complete and we will soon move in.

What does receiving this money mean to you?
I have lived with my husband in this small house for 5 years now, we have two boys aged 4.5 years and last born has 3 years. The house is leaking and it's very uncomfortable to live inside, most of the times when it rains we are forced to wake up keep beddings aside and have to stand until rain stops. We find this life very difficult especially for my son that we live with, we decided to take my older son to her grandma in Dalado, and we plan to bring him back once we finish building a spacious house. Upon receiving the first transfer of 55,000 KSH we plan to build an extra room which will cost 25,000 KSH, and use 5000 KSH to buy food and save the rest until we get a better plan.
What is the happiest part of your day?
My last born surprised me the other day, when he started speaking and called me mama, I really can't forget this milestone, and I celebrate this joy with my husband.
What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
Our main challenges is one the house we live in is small and is also leaking which makes our nights horrible during rainy season. My husband is employed as caretaker at a nearby school, and his salary small that he cannot provide for family basic needs, It's difficult to get three meals a day and most times we go for days without meals and only take porridge. We hopeful when we receive the transfer from Givedirectly we will be able to do a good budget on our housing and other needs especially food.
