How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
The biggest difference in my daily is that I have built a decent spacious house for my children. We lived in a small house as a family and our comfort was slowly wearing out because of the size of our house. My children didn't have a good place to carry on their private studies due to a lot of disturbances. My resources are limited thus meeting family daily basic is too overwhelming to remain with some to build a house. Currently, my children have a good place to sleep and to do their private studies without any disturbances. I no longer shy away when I have visitors because I have a decent house and enough space to host them unlike before. I am so much grateful for the support from GiveDirectly because it has greatly changed my family living standards.
In your opinion, what does GiveDirectly do well, and what does it not do well?
We have been able to provide for our families effectively, purchasing livestock as assets and most importantly, building better iron-roofed houses thus enjoying good shelter. I love how GiveDirectly made the community well aware of their support, made clear guidelines on the intended person and maintained it. GiveDirectly is honest and transparent and ready to help the needy I urge them to continue with the same.
What did you spend your second transfer on?
KES53150 to build a new house, i had one house, old
KES53150, to build a house.
KES4000 chickens,
KES5000 on my household food,
KES3700 on farming,
I spent my entire second transfer to build anew house. I bought building materials that include; pieces of iron sheets, building poles and timber to enable me to construct a new house and to cater for the labor involved in building a new house. It had always been my desire day and night to one day own a decent home but hopes were shattered since I did not have adequate resources to build the house. My greatest happiness is that I now have a new home for my family.

Describe the biggest difference in your daily life.
The biggest difference in my daily life is that I am so happy that I am finally building a new semi-permanent house that I have always wished to have. I have lived in my current house for a long time and over this period, whenever it rained, our stuff always gets wet and some ruined. This made our stay an uncomfortable one. Now that I am almost done building, I am so excited to soon be living in a new house!
Describe the moment when you received your money. How did you feel?
I was just waking up to prepare breakfast for my school-going children when I heard a message notification. I got excited upon confirming that It was the money that Give Directly had promised to send. I gave the good news to my children and they were happy too.
What did you spend your first transfer on?
I used the transfer received to buy building materials to put up a semi-permanent house. For a while, I have been living in a leaking house and this has always made our stay very uncomfortable whenever it rained. The rest of the transfer will go into the payment of labor for the construction of the house.

What does receiving this money mean to you?
Receiving this money means a an improvement in my housing standards.
My small hut has been leaking for about five years now due to depleted grass-thatched roofing. My son has since contracted asthma due to this prolonged exposure to cold. Therefore upon receiving this money, I am planning to put up two corrugated iron roofed houses for me and my children. This is a measure that I believe will mitigate avoidable sicknesses of such kind, henceforth.
What is the happiest part of your day?
Being a rainy season, majority of farmers have maize in their farms. Everyday, I wake up to go and weed in my maize farm until late in the afternoon that I come home for lunch and have a rest. Sometimes, take a nap. This is a relieving moment after the day's hard work. This is the happiest part of my day.
What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
When one of my children suffered from meningitis about a decade ago, my husband and I sold the livestock we had in a desperate attempt to save his life. Though our efforts did not pay off, he still succumbed to the illness.
We have since struggled through educating the rest of the children because we almost exhausted the wealth we had in meeting our late son's costly medication. Matter of fact, two of my first born children dropped out of school due to lack of resources to take them to school. My conscience is constantly haunted by the regret that I did not give them education, an avenue to dignified life.
