How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
My name is Jumah Kiadii and I live in this Kpagbola town along with my husband. Before receiving the GIVE DIRECTLY transfer, I and my husband planed to build a house for ourselves using only dirt bricks (mud). After receiving my transfer and knowing that indeed GIVE DIRECTLY is real and the transfer was coming continuously as promised, we now got a new goal of building our house using concrete (cement) blocks for the foundation of the house, so yes, I have a new goal now after I started receiving the transfer and that new goal is building myself a modern and durable house.
In your opinion, what does GiveDirectly do well, and what does it not do well?
In my opinion GIVEDIRECTLY is doing everything well. I have not seen that thing which GIVE DIRECTLY is not doing well in yet.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
These are the things I spent my transfer on: 21 bags of cement, rice, oil and I paid the people who worked for me.

Describe the moment when you received your money. How did you feel?
On October 12, 2021 in the morning, I was sweeping my yard when I heard people shouting in the town with joy. When I asked what was going on, they told me that GiveDirectly has sent money to our mobile money accounts that I should go to the network area in the town to check my phone. So I quickly went to the football field to check my account; and when I checked, I saw my money. I was so happy because this was the first time for someone to bless me in such a way.
Describe the biggest difference in your daily life since you started receiving payments from GiveDirectly.
Before GiveDirectly sent me this money, I depended on my husband for everything which was not easy for our family at all; but through this GiveDirectly transfer, I have my own business now that I can raise money from in order to help my husband with our family expenses. I am also stress free because I have more food for my family and I am able to settle any little issue on my own.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
I used my first transfer to pay my children school fees and I bought them other schooling materials. I also started a new business that will help me raise more money for my family expenses. I bought food for my family with the remaining amount.

What does receiving this money mean to you?
If I receive this cash transfer from Givedirectly, I will build a four bedroom house that will provide shelter for my children and I. Right now my children and I live in a mud structure that is not in a good shape. My husband is not working and the money I make from the market I sell is not enough to build a decent house for my children and I. Also I will use some portion of the money to invest into my children's education. I think with proper education my children will not go through the type of hardship I am experiencing now.
What is the happiest part of your day?
My older daughter was promoted to 9th grade at the end of the school year, this brought me joy and happiness. My parents didn't send me to school and this made life difficult for me. Seeing my daughter progressing in her education bringsme joy andhappiness, I think when she's is properly educated, she will not experience the hardship I am going through.
What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
My greatest hardship right now is: the house I live in is not in a good shape, the roof is completely damaged. Every time it rains we usually seek shelter in my neighbor's living room. As such whenever the rainy season Is approaching I worry alot.
