How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
In a few years to come, I intend to fence my land fully for security purposes and also to initiate a poultry project and expand on dairy farming. This will assure me of a stable income that can comfortably sustain my family. I plan on using the money that I have been saving little by little in the table banking to realise this goal.
In your opinion, what does GiveDirectly do well, and what does it not do well?
The organization is thorough and keen on details during enrolment. They ensured that they visited all the houses within the boundary of our village. I am forever grateful for the support that amazingly lifted my living standards to a higher level than ever before. Throughout my interaction with the program, I never experienced things that were not done well.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
When I was promised an unconditional transfer from GiveDirectly, it filled my heart with joy and happiness. This is because I am expecting my first child and therefore I knew that the cash would be of great impact to our young family. My husband works at the township as a laundry caretaker and I am a consistent farmer. Upon receiving the second transfer, my husband and I agreed to buy a dairy cow worth $280 to cut down on the cost of buying milk, especially once I put it to bed. I had a cow before but unfortunately, it died and I did not have money to replace it. I thereafter bought iron sheets with the remaining amount to replace the roof of my house which was old. I am so grateful for the support that has lifted my living standards and brought happiness to my marriage.

Describe the moment when you received your money. How did you feel?
It was around 6 am while still sleeping. That's when my dad called to confirm if I had received the transfers. On checking, I had received KES 55,000 from GiveDirectly. I was very happy and this motivated me to wake up though I was feeling weak after a medical injection the previous day.
Describe the biggest difference in your daily life since you started receiving payments from GiveDirectly.
The biggest in my daily life since I started receiving is the purchase of a heifer because once it reproduces it will be a source of milk for my family hence reducing milk expenses.
Secondly, with the new set of sofa sets, the house looks more decent and comfortable than before.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
When I received my transfers I spent KES 25,000 on a heifer. This is because my only dairy cow which was my family's source of milk source died at the beginning of the year. Therefore, once this reproduces it will be a source of income and milk for my family.
Furthermore, I spent KES 11,000 on the purchase of construction trees for a kitchen. This is because the one I have is too tiny only 7 Iron sheets and can accommodate two people at a go.
Additionally, I spent KES 9,000 on sofa sets because we had only locally made benches. This has made my house look more decent than before when it looked like a hall.
Moreover, I spent KES 5,000 on kitchen utensils like flasks, cooking pots, and cups since I only had a few. I also spent KES 3,500 on a bed because I had quality and lasting trees.
I also on KEs 2,000 on maize meal and KES 1600. And the KES 1300 on settlement of debts

What does receiving this money mean to you?
I have been dreaming of keeping and rearing sheep but this has remained just a dream for a long time. Lack of capital has been the main setback, my husband is a casual laborer in Jomo Kenyatta Airport earning KES 15000 monthly. His earnings are little and not enough to support family needs. This business is profitable and easy to run making it my favorite. With this money, I will invest KES 50000 to venture into this enterprise. My kitchen is also small and not in good condition. I will plan KES 30000 to build a better kitchen for my family. Also to curb the challenge of food shortages in my family, I will use the remaining money to buy food grains for my family.
What is the happiest part of your day?
I had my wedding on twenty-eight December 2021. The wedding was amazing and successful. I was happy to take marriage vows and make my relationship official.
What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
I have no stable source of income to support my husband who is the sole breadwinner of the family. This is making us struggle financially to provide family basic needs for the family and pay bills. This has landed me in debt.
