How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
My life is different from how it would have been had I not received the transfer. First, my wife no longer have conflicts with our neighbors about my chicken destroying their crops. Also, I believe that I will be able to cater for my children's education with less struggle when they join high school. This is because I will be using the income from dairy project to pay their fees.
In your opinion, what does GiveDirectly do well, and what does it not do well?
In my opinion, GiveDirectly did well by treating everyone equally and I do not see anything that they did not do well.
What did you spend your second transfer on?
When I received my second transfer, I bought three heifers as an investment. We settled on this so that it will later help us to cater for our children's education through the sale of offsprings and milk. I spent the remaining amount to fence my compound so that my chicken will not be invading peoples farms.

Describe the biggest difference in your daily life.
I have always been a troubled man in the past because I had so much to fulfil for my family. I didn't have any other source of money since I currently do not have any source of income and always depend on casual labour for a living. I have a small piece of land but couldn't afford to farm it because of capital to purchase seeds and so I continually leased it to someone who can afford to farm. Receiving money from GiveDirectly was a powerful financial breakthrough to my family since together with my spouse, we decided to fulfil two of our family goals of constructing a house for my sons and purchasing the dairy cow. My entire family is now very happy because my sons now have somewhere to sleep at night as well as study. I am also generally happy as a parent because I no longer worry about my sons' safety. Owning a dairy cow is also a great step in my life since our community really respect a man with livestock. This too will in the near future greatly reduce my dairy budget of purchasing milk for my family consumption.
Describe the moment when you received your money. How did you feel?
When I received a Mpesa message that I have received money form from Givedirectly, I was very happy. I immediately woke up my wife and we celebrated together. We all remained sleepless until morning when we joined the rest of the villagers in celebration
What did you spend your first transfer on?
I spent the money I received from GiveDirectly to purchase house construction materials such as iron sheets and paid labour for the construction of a new house for my sons to sleep in since I didn't have an extra house for them and they used to sleep in neighbours houses. I also bought a dairy cow. I initially didn't have one of my own. I thought this is a wise decision since it will in the near future not only reduce my household budget of always purchasing milk but also have some for sale hence generate income to the family. I also bought some furniture since I initially had a few which were not comfortable to sit on. The remaining amount, I used it to purchase new sets of clothes for my children since the ones they hard were old and tattered.

What does receiving this money mean to you?
Receiving this money means that I will be able to buy a cow. This to me is going to greatly benefit my family because from it,we will be able to have milk for my children as well as for sale. With the income from this sale,I will be able to use it to meet the other needs of my family.I will also build my sons a small house with the remainder so that they do not have to sleep at our neighbour's house anymore
What is the happiest part of your day?
Very early in the morning,i set out of home to look for a manual job within the village.I know I must secure one otherwise my family will sleep hungry. Before midday,I have found something to do and I know that I will finally have something to take back home.As I continue working,am happy because another day has already been sorted. This is the happiest part of my day
What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
The biggest hardship I have faced is raising a family of eight without a source of income.Everyday is a struggle. They have to feed,be clothed and attend school. All these are expenses that are necessary and most of the time I have no means of meeting them.I do not have a job and so does my wife.We are both illiterate and do not have any skill that can secure us any means of an income. We therefore depend fully on work offered by our neighbours on their farms for a very small wage at the end of the day. This is often very insufficient to meet all the household needs.
