How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
My life and well being have improved alot. I acquired nice clothing for my family. We eat nice food and we are much healthier now. In the past,I could not afford nice household items. We were dressed in tattered clothes. Life was very miserable.
In your opinion, what does GiveDirectly do well, and what does it not do well?
GiveDirectly does well to send people cash transfers to spend unconditionally. On the otherhand, I cannot point out any mishap on the side if GiveDirectly.
What did you spend your second transfer on?
I purchased a bicycle , a goat and a mattress and a bed. I also paid off some debts.

Describe the biggest difference in your daily life.
My life is better now because I have bought materials which I am going to use for constructing an iron roofed house. I have acquired a bicycle which has eased movement for family members and for carrying water. Before I got this money I could go to fetch water on foot and carry the jerrycan on my head which was not easy because all the weight was on me.
Describe the moment when you received your money. How did you feel?
The moment I received the transfers, I became so happy and from the look of things my future is bright. I did not have a plan to construct due to lack of money but GiveDirectly is making things possible for us.
What did you spend your first transfer on?
I used my first transfer for buying four trips of bricks, one trip of sand and a second hand bicycle. I have saved UGX 400,000.

What does receiving this money mean to you?
Receiving this money means my family will be able to build an iron roofed house, we plan to complete the payment of bride price to my parents and buy a piece of land for cultivation purposes.
What is the happiest part of your day?
I am happiest in the noon time when my children are playing. It is a sign that they are healthy.
What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
The biggest hardship that I am faced with is inadequacy of land. What is available for cultivation is too small to accommodate all that I would wish to plant. This same piece of land is used every season. Sometimes the yield is low because the land is over used. This has always resulted into food shortage in my family.
