How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
Currently, all is well and I do not have any new goals that I can mention. The major one was to build a permanent house and after receiving the transfers I had to prioritize it. I am so happy that I managed to fulfill the dream, we are now happily sleeping in a decent shelter with all the family members. Initially, it was in poor condition and not spacious enough.
In your opinion, what does GiveDirectly do well, and what does it not do well?
In my opinion, GiveDirectly did a splendid task by ensuring that they enroll all these needy households in my village. Also, the cash was unconditional and this stood out. Given the chance to choose what to buy depending on my needs. Through that, I was able to buy a variety of assets I am grateful for that.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
I spent a better fraction of my second transfer on buying ten goats at KES 45000. I have been yearning to own them for a long but they were very expensive. I had to purchase many of them at once because I believe I will achieve a lot through them. Goats normally reproduce twice a year and take little time to mature. Therefore in a few years to come, they will have multiplied and I will be able to pay school fees for my kids once they transition to college. Since I am a widow who relies on temporary jobs, paying their fees has been a challenge. Later on, I cleared school fees of KES 5000 for my two children who are in primary schools. With the remaining amount of money, I bought foodstuffs for my family.

I received a message notification on my phone when I was busy talking with the class teacher. I had to complete what I was doing before I could go home for my helper to verify the message and interpret it for me. After reaching home, I called my helper who confirmed that I had received the transfer. I was extremely happy for receiving my transfer since I had planned in place how to spend it to transform my life.

The biggest difference in my daily life is that I am now a happy livestock farmer after improving my farming. I was able to purchase additional goats with the help of the transfer. In addition, I have enough foodstuffs for family consumption and no longer have to go to bed without food unlike before.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
I spent KES 30,000 to boost my livestock rearing a reliable source of income for my family. This is also a future investment for my family. I will be able to sell them when they reproduce to cater to any financial emergency that might arise. In addition, I will be able to further my 3 children's educational needs who are still in lower primary. I also bought 10 iron sheets, 50 buildings poles for KES 13,000 this was for renovations of my house which is about to collapse and pause risky to my family members. I used part of the remaining amount to acquire adequate food stock for the family since we are experiencing famine in our area at the moment. Lastly, I used the other part to purchase new school uniforms for my 3 children, this is because they were going to school using casual clothes.
