Describe the moment when you received your money. How did you feel?
It was exactly 11 am, I was at my home with my husband relaxing after completing the morning households chores. I heard my neighbours rejoicing for receiving their transfer. I was so worried if I had received mine too, so I decided to inform my relative to check my phone and he informed me that I had received my transfer as well. I was so excited when I learned that I had received my transfer since I had never received such a huge amount of money in my life.
Describe the biggest difference in your daily life since you started receiving payments from GiveDirectly.
The biggest difference in my daily life is that I am currently sleeping on a comfortable bed with my family. I have never spent my nights on a mattress and a comfortable bed before. The only instance when I could use them is when I visited my neighbor's house. This has installed dignity into my life. Furthermore, my kids are learning without any problems after clearing their school fees.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
I spent KES 10,800 of my transfer to purchase proper bedding for my family. Formerly, I was using a small traditional bed which had broken legs that was uncomfortable to use. I also supported the education of children and grandchildren who are still schooling by paying their school fees. Furthermore, I used KES 20,000 to purchase sufficient food stock for my family of 10 members this is because we have been experiencing famine in our area. With the remaining amount, I am planning to purchase some 5 goats as a long-term investment for my family.
