How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
My life is different in that, I was able to plaster and cement my permanent house which had taken me ten years to complete. Previously, I suffered with alot of dust since I built it using mud. In addition, I have also acquired another calf on top of the two cows I had.
In your opinion, what does GiveDirectly do well, and what does it not do well?
In my opinion, GiveDirectly has done well by enabling me to cement and plaster my permanent house. GiveDirectly has not done anything wrong.

Describe the biggest difference in your daily life.
My daily life has changed in that my entire family is living in harmony and happiness as I was able to meet most of their needs. In addition to this, seeing that my house is being beautified makes me happy.
Describe the moment when you received your money. How did you feel?
I heard my phone notification and called one of my children who is well versed with the phone. He checked and informed me about the cash transfer. At that moment, I felt so happy that together with my family, we decided to plan to use it beautify the house.
What did you spend your first transfer on?
I spent my first transfer Ugx 1200000 to pay labor, buy some building materials such as cement, sand, water, aggregate that I used to plaster my already existing house and buy food that fed the laborers and my family. I then spent Ugx 100000 on my children's needs of school and home. I am saving up the balance that I plan to use to buy doors and windows that I will fit on my house.

What does receiving this money mean to you?
When I receive this money, I will first beautify the house. In this I will plaster the walls and the floor, paint it and buy nice windows. This is the same house that my children will live in when I die so it has to look good. I will also buy 2 ox to help in ploughing the fields because currently I just hire ploughing services from other people. This will help improve the way I practice agriculture and even save money that would be used in hiring this ploughing services.
What is the happiest part of your day?
The happiest part of my day is in the afternoon after finnishing the day's agricultural work. I get time to rest and eat food.
What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
The biggest hardship I have faced in my life is lack of sufficient money to cater for the household's basic needs like school fees, medical care, feeding etc. This is because there are no good outputs from agriculture.
