How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
Since I started business in the area, I could not make good profit because people had desire to buy my items but high rate of poverty could not allow them to do so. They could opt for the most basic items like food. But upon getting the transfer, my business suddenly picked. I have made good profit and that has enabled me to do other project like poultry keeping.
In your opinion, what does GiveDirectly do well, and what does it not do well?
GiveDirectly has empowered our community in terms of resource allocation. It has improved the entire economy of the area. Business has been good in all sectors and my welding business in the most beneficiary of that. The organization should give community engagement more time for the message to sink to community members. Unlike the situation witnessed in our area where sensitization was given short time, some people did not attend the facilitation session and this could result to high refusal rate, not because the people were rebels, but because they did not digest the message.
What did you spend your second transfer on?
I spent my second transfer on school fees and expansion of my artisan business. I have a welding machine and have a skill of making steel doors and windows, beds and chairs. I took advantage of money circulation within GD operational areas and managed to take loan in order to add material stock. I predicted that after receiving money, people would start buying my items, and that is what happened.

Describe the biggest difference in your daily life.
The biggest difference in my life since I received this transfer is that my business is now doing so well. This hotel business which has been my only source of income for the last one year. I had to sell one of my cows to start this business since casual work could not sustain my family needs and I was slowly turning into a beggar. This business has been providing for my family though since the year began, I have been getting worried that it may fall because my family needs have been met by the revenue generated from the business which has been too much. When I received this transfer, I just wanted to add more stock and equipments so that I may improve its status. As a result, I knew it will yield more profir which will be able to help me meet my family demands and at least save a portion for future asistance.
Describe the moment when you received your money. How did you feel?
When I received this transfer, I was very happy because I came to believe it was a reality that I had received money from Give Directly. I have never in my life received such amount of money from anywhere. I only depend on hotel business which has not been very productive due to financial demands it has been meeting. Am glad it's never falling because of GD.
What did you spend your first transfer on?
I spent my whole transfer on boosting my business by adding more stock so that it could earn me more profit to help me sustain my family needs. I have always had a hotel business which I fully depend on for survival. It has not been doing well because it has been our only source of income yet we don't re-invest in it through the profits we get. This has affected it a lot and that is why I chose to boost it so that it can serve my family needs and help us improve our lives.
