How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
My life is different than how it would have been had I not received the transfer. This is because I was able to practice timely cultivation unlike the previous years. My transfers came in handy and I was to use a tractor for land preparation and planting purposes, used enough fertilizers and quality hybrid seeds. Due to this, I harvested enough maize that will last till the next harvesting season. I am now glad since I will not be buying maize flour on daily basis like before.
In your opinion, what does GiveDirectly do well, and what does it not do well?
In my opinion, GiveDirectly does well by changing people's lives through cash transfers and I do not see anything that they do not do well.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
When I received my transfer, I spent KES 14,000 to pay school fees for my son after tithing KES 3000. I settled on this so that he would not be sent back home. In addition to this, I bought a dairy cow worth KES 240000. This is a permanent reminder of GiveDirectly to me that I will be showing it to my children. Also, I will be using my income for the sale of surplus to pay school fees for my children. Using the remaining amount, I bought some clothes and food for my family.

Describe the moment when you received your money. How did you feel?
When I woke up at a quarter to six while trying to check what time it was to my surprise I found out that GD had send me my transfers as they had promised. I shouted for joy until all my kids woke up and they joined in celebration of the GD money. We then offered a thanksgiving prayer to GOD for GiveDirectly. We were overwhelmed with joy the whole day that day because we hadn't received such a lump sum before.
Describe the biggest difference in your daily life since you started receiving payments from GiveDirectly.
The biggest difference in my daily life is happiness because before the end of next year my dairy cows will have increased and my farm produce will have increased. All these will enable me pay fees in the next year with ease. Nowadays, I am full of energy and usually wake up early before six just to work on my farm. GD has enabled me work harderthan before because I have started planting of Indigenous vegetables which I was unable to plant before due to lack of capital.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
I spent a half of my transfer on a heifer because I will be the first to milk and it will also act as addition to the one I had. From the milk production, I will be able to pay school fees with ease. Part of the transfers was spent on boosting my son's hotel business he has been the breadwinner of the family for a long time. He majorly supports my younger son who's been who's sickly for the past four years after undergoing a stomach operation and his large intestines were removed and thus requires special attention in terms of food and medication. Some was spent on a sack of maize meal, and the rest on ploughing land and purchase of maize seeds so that it can act as stock for the next before I used to plant half an acre but with the transfers I managed to plant one acre.

What does receiving this money mean to you?
I have three children who are in various schools. As a parent I feel that the best gift I can give each is good education ever. Receiving this money means so much to me. If I will be one of the people who are going to be enrolled for this program, I plan to buy 3 cows each costing 25000 shillings. From the same cows I will get 15litres of milk every morning which I will sell in a nearby market for 30 shillings a litre. I will safe this money for my children's school fees.
What is the happiest part of your day?
When I wake up in the morning I engage myself in so many activities with the sole intention of bettering my life and that of my family. The happiest part of my day is usually in the evening when I am done with the activities of the day.
What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
My granddaughter has been sick since she was 9 months old, and she has been operated on 7times. This has drained us financially as we were forced to sell almost all the assets in order to raise her medical bill. Even as we talk she is still undergoing numerous check ups which is still draining us even more.
