How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
Receipt of the transfer has made us lead a more satisfying lifestyle than before. We sleep and seat more comfortably, something that attracts some health benefits. Also, I am somehow relieved from the tedious casual tasks that I usually do to money to get income primarily for feeding my family. I am certain that my family shall be well-nourished for a while since we have a good food stock. Thanks GiveDirectly and be blessed.
In your opinion, what does GiveDirectly do well, and what does it not do well?
GiveDirectly does well by sending funds directly to the recipients without relying on intermediate players. This ensures each person receives their full share unlike when there are intermediaries who could engage in pilferages and theft. Thus, I find nothing that GiveDirectly doesn't do well.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
I purchased furniture and beddings worth 10, 000 shillings using my second transfer. We had no decent seats ad beddings since we could not afford them. We have been sleeping on rags with no bed. I used the remainder on buying more food stock since our crops have not been doing well of late. Precisely, I have been struggling to bring up my five children since my husband abandoned us some years back.

Describe the moment when you received your money. How did you feel?
I received my transfers at around six fourty nine Saturday morning after a sleepless long night of waiting for the Mpesa notification on a Friday night. I was awoken by the SMS ringtone which I first ignored. When I checked with sleepy eyes I only saw 55 and was was wondering who could have sent 55 shillings to me. On rechecking well, I couldn't believe my eyes there fifty five thousand lay before me. I was very happy, couldn't sleep any longer and I was very grateful to GD.My son also called me to confirm if I had received mine after receiving his and we were equally excited. I immediately called the Mpesa agent to inquire whether I could withdraw and she just laughed and authorized me to withdraw. Immmediately I withdrew and went for the money at aroun 12pm and paid the owner of the cow I had booked for in advance.
Describe the biggest difference in your daily life since you started receiving payments from GiveDirectly.
The biggest difference in my daily life is eating adequate varieties of food which I couldn't afford before and now I am stress free. Initially, we used to eat from hand to mouth but with the transfers I am more healthy and neat than before. I have even added weight and I am very grateful. Owning a heifer and goats which will be a source of income for my family is also another big difference. Before, I used to be sickly and stress up because I had lost most of my dairy cows to cattle diseases which are prevalent in our place but the transfers have enabled me recover my lost glory.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
I spent 150 USD on a young bull in order to rear until it gains value and sell it in exchange for an heifer or build an house. 250 UD was spent on heifer which is now six months pregnant as an addition to a dairy cow that I have. This is because milk has been the main income source for my family for a very long time. Mind you I used to pay school from selling milk alone so I still treasure it so much. 70USD was spent on two goats because they grow and multiply fast and in future l may sell them in order to purchase building materials.50 USD was spent on piped water group contribution because getting clean water is big issue in our place. Our place being semi arid causes a long dry spell which causes rivers to easily dry up. During sunny season we are forced to run up and down borrowing water from those who have piped water. 56 USD was spent on two maize sacks as a source of food for my family because it's been a long hunger period in our place and we normally eat from hand to mouth

What does receiving this money mean to you?
I live in a mud walled house. Living in such a structure entails a lot of smearing because of heavy rainfall that is witnessed in these areas every now and again. At my age I cannot handle such kind of work now that I am all alone. Receiving this money will mean a lot to me because I intend to construct a better house made of bricks instead of mud. This will safe me a lot of hustle.
What is the happiest part of your day?
I am always happy in the morning when I wake up strong and healthy. This is the time I give thanks to God for allowing me see a brand new day
What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
We do farming as a source of livelihood. We plant a number of crops which includes tomatoes, maize, beans and tomatoes. This crops normally attract poor prices which end up giving us losses. Tomatoes are highly perishable and if there is no ready market you end up counting losses. Recently, I had ready tomatoes from 0.5 acre piece of land, and coming out empty handed was something so painful to take.
