How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
Before, we had acquire a small piece of land where we would do mixed farming. The biggest challenge we we had was water storage and at times we would be denied access water points at our neighborhood. When I got these transfers, I saw it wise to acquire a water tank so that I can have a place for storing water for use at home. I couldn't afford to raise money for buying a water tank but when I got my second transfer, I obtained one and now I have solved the water crisis which we used to experience in our compound.
In your opinion, what does GiveDirectly do well, and what does it not do well?
To me, GiveDirectly do well by sending the money directly to the accounts of the beneficiaries. That reduces conflicts, theft as well as corruption which may result with cash handling. I didn't noticed anything that was good about the project that GiveDirectly implemented in our village. All was good and bravo for that.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
My second transfers which I received from GiveDirectly, I spent KES 27000 on buying a water tank for storing rain water. I then spent KES 5000 on fixing cutters for harvesting rainwater from our house. The remaining amount of KES 21000, I spent on paying school fees for my two children who are in high school. I am glad that these transfers enabled me to acquire water tank which I couldn't afford on my own and also support me to pay school fees in good time.

Describe the moment when you received your money. How did you feel?
It was around 6pm, while cleaning dishes when I heard an SMS notification on my phone. On checking, I confirmed to have received KES 550000 from GiveDirectly and I was very happy because I knew my daughter's school fees would be cleared.
Describe the biggest difference in your daily life since you started receiving payments from GiveDirectly.
The biggest difference in my daily life since I started receiving the transfers is clearance of my daughter's this terms school fees. Before the transfers, my daughter had been sent home due to alot of arrears but GiveDirectly has relieved me of this burden. Another major difference made by GiveDirectly transfers is water accessibility because I bought a water tank which can store water for a longer time. I had desired to have a water tank for the past 15 years but couldn't afford.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
I spent KES23000 on payment of school fees for my daughter who had been sent home that time due to school fees arrears. I normally rely on my cereals business and dairy farming in order to pay school fees. I also spent KES22000 on a 4200 liters water tank to aid water storage for domestic use because carrying water on my back has been a real burden for years.I also spent the rest on construction of a poultry house in order to accommodate my poultry which were living under my roof.

What does receiving this money mean to you?
Receiving this money means quality education for my children. I have two children in secondary school and raising school fees has been an uphill battle for me and my husband. My husband works as a security guard in Nairobi, Kenya, and the salary he receives monthly is KES 10,000. This small amount can not buy foodstuffs for the family and pay for school fees. I plan to set aside KES 60,000 that will help my two daughters, to complete their secondary education. I will use KES 20, 000 to buy a 3,000 liters water tank since we do not have clean water for the family consumption. For the remaining amount, I will buy furniture, Clothing, and Foodstuffs for my family.
What is the happiest part of your day?
For the last 6 months, God has blessed my family with good health. None of my family members have fallen sick and this is something I celebrate since last year I was having a difficult time getting medication for the children when they got sick. I Bless and give thanks to my God for what he has done in the last 6 months.
What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
Food insecurity is the biggest challenge I am currently facing. Poor rainfall patterns witnessed in the last two years have made farming unproductive forcing me to do casual jobs for daily wages and also depend on my husband most of the time. Seeing my husband strangle to make ends meet and I do not contribute anything, makes me feel sad.
