How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
Since my sons are almost clearly in high school I intend to build them a good house.
In your opinion, what does GiveDirectly do well, and what does it not do well?
In my opinion, GiveDirectly does well by giving out cash, therefore, eradicating poverty. This is evident in the smiles of temporary teachers who received additional pay after the students who couldn't afford fees earlier paid the fees.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
My husband has been a mechanic for the past 20 years. This is has been our main income source which helps in fees payment and food for my family. Therefore, when the transfers came. I gave KES 25,000 to my husband as garage rental fees, filling of the garage gas, and purchase of additional garage materials. Secondly, I spent KES 4,500 on a purchase of a 6 Kg gas cooker. This is due to firewood scarcity in our place and this will also help kids prepare breakfast fast during school days. Thirdly, I spent KES 4,500 on a three sofa set seater. I also spent KES 5000 on household cooking utensils. This is because I only had a few utensils enough for my family. Lastly, I spent KES 5,000 on clearance of last term's school fees arrears for my kids.

Describe the moment when you received your money. How did you feel?
It was around 5pm when I received a message on my phone. Upon checking, it was receipt of Kshs.55,000 from Give directly. I was super excited and I knew the plans I had already written down would now commence.
Describe the biggest difference in your daily life since you started receiving payments from GiveDirectly.
The biggest difference in my daily life is the clearance of school fee arrears for my child. I am now peaceful since I know she cannot be sent home at all. I am so grateful for the support I have received so far from Give directly.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
Clearing of school remedial arrears for my child was a priority. With Kshs.5,000 I used to clear the arrears. My child was able to go back to school and catch up with what he had missed. I had also deposited some amount for land that was being sold by my neighbor. With Kshs.20,000 I used to clear the debt that was remaining. Am now happy that I am rightfully the owner of the land. I also used Ksh. 5,000 in paying a debt for sacs of maize I had been taking from a nearby posho mill. With the remaining amount, I used to buy food and clothes for my household members.

What does receiving this money mean to you?
My biggest struggle now is paying school fees for my three children in secondary school and one in college pursuing a Diploma in Automotive engineering. With this money, I will use KES 50000 to clear school fees for the next academic year to help me focus on providing food and basic needs for the family. My husband does a gas welding enterprise which is earning us some income. I will therefore give him KES 40000 to buy welding gas cylinders and upgrade his business. This will translate to more income for the family. With the remaining amount, I will use it to buy food and clothing for my children.
What is the happiest part of your day?
My family members have been enjoying good health for the last six months, this made me feel happy. Above all, we used to hear about GiveDirectly and the good assistance they were giving people from the far villages of Kaboson ward. The good news we got from the Baraza that GiveDirectly is coming to our village brought me joy and happiness. I saw my dreams coming true and thus a successful future.
What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
Paying school fees for my children has not been an easy task for me. This is making me struggle a lot now that I rely on subsistence farming to support my family. Also providing food for the family has been another challenge since our family income is not sufficient to pay school fees and buy food.
