How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
life is different in that I now own a lot of things that I never thought I would have them any time soon. The amount of time that I spend looking for and doing casual labour has been greatly reduced. The transfers brought a lot of relief on my side and gave me enough time to engage in my own activities as a parent at home and have a good time with family as well. I have had time to relax and avoid the stress of working for long hours just to get very little pay that is hardly enough for us to put food on the table.
In your opinion, what does GiveDirectly do well, and what does it not do well?
In my opinion GiveDirectly did so well by enrolling everyone fairly and fulfilled their promise of delivering the cash in two installments. We are living in a world where people are so deceptive and it becomes difficult to know who to trust. We felt so happy at the transparency employed by GiveDirectly in their operations. I did not see anything about GiveDirectly that was not done well.
What did you spend your second transfer on?
I used KES 30000 of my transfer to pay school fees for my son who is in college. He had accumulated this huge school fee arrears and when we got the money from GiveDirectly, I decided to clear the outstanding debt in school. I used the remaining amount to buy food and other household valuables for the family. My son is now in school pursuing his studies without the worry of being denied the chance to sit for exams. He is so happy about this and I am equally happy as a parent now that I have been able to take my child to school. We shall always be indebted to GiveDirectly.

The biggest difference in my daily life is that I have a better house for my family and my children have a spacious room to sleep unlike before.

The moment I received my money I felt so happy because I knew I would be able to build a better house for my family and even buy enough food.

I Spend my first transfer on buying a dairy cow, I also used some amount to buy food , cultivate my farm and the remaining amount I bought building materials to build a better house.

What does receiving this money mean to you?
Receiving this money means that my dream of having a semi-permanent house for my family is realized. Additionally, I'll venture into animal grazing. Long live GD.
What is the happiest part of your day?
The happiest part of my day is in the evening when I am back from my daily hustles and carrying with me something for my family to take for supper.
What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
The inability of my parents to pay for my school fees meant that I had to quit schooling at an early stage while my friends progressed. Now, I live a life(of hustle and tussle, working hand to mouth e.t.c) that could've have been different had I continued with my education and for me this is the biggest hardship that I have ever experienced.
