Describe the moment when you received your money. How did you feel?
I was so happy the moment when I received my first cash transfer..I felt so blessed as I have never touched such a huge amount of money..I'm forever grateful to Givedirectly for these blessings.
Describe the biggest difference in your daily life since you started receiving payments from GiveDirectly.
The biggest difference in my daily life is that I will finally be able to have a better house with iron sheets...I have never slept in a house with iron sheets for the past 35 years so this is like an achievement.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
I used my first cash transfer to purchase a mattress and other beddings so that I can finally sleep without any worries.
Since I already had bricks, I managed to procure a few construction materials such as iron sheets, windowframes and timber which I will use in building a brand new house next year.
I then purchased a few bags of maize since I already had a few remaining bags in my house.

What does receiving this money mean to you?
I am very happy that I have received these transfers because I already have bricks so I want to build a house. I want to have a good house because I want people to respect me that I have a good house.
I also want to buy mattress and a beddings. I want to buy a mattress because a room looks good and respectable when there is a mattress.
What is the happiest part of your day?
I am happy when I have enough farm produce to sell so that I can earn money to buy food as well as clothes for my children. In the last six months I have been happy because I was able to sell pigeon peas. The money I made helped me a lot because I used it to buy maize.
What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
Currently, I am facing the challenge of not having enough food. I depend on piece work to find money to buy food. I do not have enough food because I harvest very little maize to last a year. Fertilizer prices are very expensive and I cannot to buy fertilizer for my maize field. So growing maize without fertilizer leads to little harvest.
