How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
My life is different than how it was before because I have been able to expand my dairy farming project. Due to this, I have been able to provide for my family on time unlike before. Also, I have started saving some money that I am intending to use in starting my poultry project. I already have a decent chicken coop and I am intending to raise it after this rainy season.
In your opinion, what does GiveDirectly do well, and what does it not do well?
In my opinion, GiveDirectly did well by improving our living standards in different ways. Due to this, most people in my village were able to send their children to school and build decent houses. I do not see anything that they did not do well.
What did you spend your second transfer on?
I spent my second transfer to buy two dairy cows after topping up some amount. I settled on this since dairy farming is more profitable in my region compared to crop farming. I am now glad since my daily income from this project has increased due to an increase in milk production. This has enabled me to save some money that I am planning to use in starting a poultry project.

Describe the biggest difference in your daily life.
Currently, I can proudly say that I am progressing in life. Even though I was not able to achieve my first goal of establishing greenhouse farming, I am glad that I am almost achieving my second goal of owning a poultry keeping project. Being able to build a spacious modernized poultry house is a big milestone in achieving my dreams. I will be saving the income from this project and later use it to start greenhouse farming after saving enough.
Describe the moment when you received your money. How did you feel?
I was going on with my daily morning routine when I received a message alert on my phone. After checking its contents, I realized that I had other unread messages. Upon reading its contents, my heart was filled with happiness as two of the messages indicated that I was already KES 55000 richer. I knew that I would soon be able to realize my dreams using this money.
What did you spend your first transfer on?
I had the intention of starting a greenhouse farming but when I received I received my first transfer, the money was not enough as its starting cost was high. Due to this, I settled on starting a poultry keeping project. I used a large amount to build a decent poultry house and equipped it with all the necessary items needed. I saved the remaining KES 15000 and I am intending to use it cumulatively with my second transfer to buy some chicken. I will always expand this project while saving some money that will later enable me to achieve my goal of practicing greenhouse farming. I prefer greenhouse farming since one is always assured of continuous production since it is not affected by any changes in the weather.

What does receiving this money mean to you?
I will finally realize my dream of venturing into agri-business upon receiving this money. 100USD of my transfer will go building a green house for planting tomatoes, spinach and pepper. Few people have ventured into this type of investment, thus farmers from a nearby county usually come over to our towns to sell us such produce at a higher price, thus practicing this kind of business will be of great advantage to me. It is also in my mind to employ one of my neighbours to water, fertilise and weed the plants since i am usually busy in my agrovet business during the day so that he can earn some income(ksh200) dailyto support his children's education.
What is the happiest part of your day?
Morning is the happiest part of my day since it is the time I feel optimistic that i will make great sales in my business by the end of the day. Having positive energy every morning makes my day a sucess.
What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
I am a teacher by profession but due to lack of employment and the tough economic times, i decided to venture into agrovet business which is lucrative due to the rise in demand for farm inputs. I sell animal feeds, drugs and pesticides which earns me close to ksh 3000 profit daily whenever i manage to get good sales. Initially before deciding to manage the business myself, I had a challenge of employee cheating by selling drugs and restocking immediately so that my stock never moves, which forced me to fire them.Managing finances has been the greatest challenge i face in my business, something that has forced me to take bank loans which has never ended well since i have been forced to sell my livestock severally to repay the debts.
