How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
It's feel good to own a dairy cow, I used to buy milk daily for our daily consumption which was too expensive because 1litre of milk sells for 50 dollars, I don't have a stable source of income therefore buying milk daily is costly, but all this is in the past now thanks to GiveDirectly that lifted my life to a greater level, I am at peace now because I also cleared the school fees arrears for my children. I am grateful for the support that bettered my life.
In your opinion, what does GiveDirectly do well, and what does it not do well?
In my opinion, GiveDirectly is the best Organisations. They helped everyone in our village regardless of their social status in the community. They treat everyone with respect. I don't see anything that is done wrongly.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
School fees have been my major challenge for my two school-going children, I am a farmer though I make very little out of it due to the harsh weather conditions in our region, I harvest very little that is not even enough for me to save for school fees, Therefore I used 100 dollars in clearing the school arrears, thereafter I bought I dairy cow that would enable me to save on the daily cost of milk. This came as a big favour and relief in our lives, my children can comfortably study without been sent home in the middle of a learning session.

Describe the moment when you received your money. How did you feel?
Receiving the transfer was the best moment in our household. Everyone was so happy that we had to come together that evening to hold a prayer session where we thank God for the great provision. It gave us hope that all we ever wished for was finally getting accomplished.
Describe the biggest difference in your daily life since you started receiving payments from GiveDirectly.
Paying school fees both the areas and a prepay for the following term, and also the completion of the construction of a new house are so far the biggest differences in my daily life. This would not have been possible without the aid, and I am so grateful that I managed to invest in all I have now.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
Upon receiving the transfer, I spent 20000KES on paying school fees for my two children both in secondary school. I had some areas to settle but decided to add some more to cover the following term. I also constructed a new house after purchasing 26 iron sheets. The old roof on the small hut we were living in had started leaking and this was an assurance that it will soon be unbearable. With the remaining amount, I obtained foodstuff and clothing for my children.

What does receiving this money mean to you?
I have three items that are nearing completion. One is my last two kids are still school and I have some pending school fees to clear. Secondly, I have a semi permanent house structure that should have been complete by now but due to lack of cash, I have been unable to finish. Lastly, I have one cattle that is supplementing my family with milk but during dry period, I am forced to buy milk from my neighbours. Therefore, I intend to use 20,000 shillings to finish my house, another 30,000 to buy a dairy cattle and the rest to clear school fees for my two kids who are both in secondary level.
What is the happiest part of your day?
After I am done with the usual household chores, I embark on carrying out farming activities like tilling, watering, weeding, pesticides application, transplanting etc of available crops on my farm or other people's farms. My happiest part of the day is in the evening and this is after I have been called upon by my neighbours for a casual job. This is because on that day I will have the means to buy my family alternative food type unlike the usual ones.
What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
I have a family of nine members. With no regular source of income, raising while at the same time providing them with basic needs i.e education, shelter, clothing and food has been an uphill task. I highly value education and that is the reason why I ensured almost all of them finished their secondary level. The continuous toiling on casual jobs so as to fend for them has been the biggest hardship of my life.
