Describe the moment when you received your money. How did you feel?
The moment I received the transfer I felt so happy. I remember it was around 9am. When I heard my neighbors celebrating. They were saying that the have received the transfer. My daughter was at home at that moment and she checked it for me. I felt so happy when she said that there was a message confirming that I have received money from GiveDirectly. My children felt so happy too. I knew I would be able to buy a heifer. I am so happy for the support because GiveDirectly has changed our living standards.
Describe the biggest difference in your daily life since you started receiving payments from GiveDirectly.
The biggest difference in my daily life is that I have purchased two heifers. I always buy milk daily and this is so costly for me I had always wished to own a dairy cow but I didn't had the money to buy. I depend on small scale farming and because our area is semi desert, we do not get good harvest. I had no surplus produce to sell to earn an income. I would go without milk whenever I had no money. This was so demoralizing and stressful especially when I have visitors at home. Currently I have two heifers and this has given me hope. When they reproduce in the next few months. I will get enough milk for the family and even sell the extra milk to earn an income to meet other household items. I have devoted much of my time on this amazing dairy project. I am so happy because GiveDirectly has improved our living standards and enable us to own assets which could have taken quite some time to be done.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
I spent the money I received from GiveDirectly to purchase tow heifers. I will get enough milk when it reproduce in the next few months. I also purchased sofa set seats. I had no seas and whenever I had visitors it was so demoralizing. Finally I bought food and clothes. I am so happy because GiveDirectly has changed our living standards.

What does receiving this money mean to you?
Receiving this means food security for my household. I depend on subsistence farming for a living but unfortunately, I am aged and not strong enough to attend to the farm. I intend to use KES 20000 on cultivating the farm.Additionally, I will use KES 20000 to purchase a dairy cow that will be my source of income as I will sell the milk and use some for the household. Furthermore, KES 30000 will facilitate the construction of a house. I will use the rest of the transfers for my upkeep.
What is the happiest part of your day?
I am happy in the morning for I am alive and able to attend to my daily household chores , as well as till my piece of land atleast to get something to eat.
What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
The roof leaks on the house I currently live in. This is uncomfortable and I fear for my health now that I am aged I might develop some complications. This has been my biggest hardship.
