How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
After achieving all the plans that I had with both my transfers, I now have a new goal of reviving a business I used to run after my shop was razed down by the fire. I used to sell second clothes in a nearby town. I decided to concentrate on both subsistence farming and also livestock farming hence saving towards starting my business again.
In your opinion, what does GiveDirectly do well, and what does it not do well?
Give directly did well by giving us the freedom to spend the transfer on our varied needs in each household. I do not have any complaints since all the procedures were followed fully.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
After receiving my second transfer, I prioritized in finishing a house I had started with my first transfer.I was constructing a house for my two sons since we use to share one house hence they never had their own privacy. With my second transfer of Ksh53,150,I bought iron sheets, timber and all other construction materials and I am so grateful the house is fully complete and they have already moved in.They currently have an ample environment for studying.

Describe the moment when you received your money. How did you feel?
The transfer came at night, we were already asleep, suddenly I was woken up by a loud ringtone message from my phone, on checking the message, I saw a Mpesa notification showing that I had received the promised transfer, words cannot explain how happy I was, indeed God had remembered us. I then called my neighbour to confirm if she had received the money too which she confirmed the same.
Describe the biggest difference in your daily life since you started receiving payments from GiveDirectly.
The fact that my son has his own house is reason enough for me to be grateful, I was unable to build a house for him all these years due to financial constraints, this is the biggest difference in my daily life because I will no longer stress myself on where I will get the funds from, I am happy that at least he will have his own place, I am grateful for the transfer that brought a change in our living standards.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
I had a plan already on how I would spend my transfer, I wanted to boost my business which had collapsed due to so many responsibilities, yet it was the only source of income that we had, but when I received the transfer I thought of building a house for my son so that he would have a place to sleep, this is because he has been sleeping in our neighbour's house thus this was not comfortable to him, therefore I used KES 43,000 In constructing the house, I then used KES 6000 in paying school fees for the other children, I am happy and contented that my son has a place of his own.
