What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
Upon receiving my first transfer, I bought a pig worth 50 $, a piece of land for 200 $, a mattress, a bed cover, food and some clothes. I spent most of my transfer into purchasing a piece of land spacious enough for me to grow enough crops to consume and spare some to sell on the market.
Describe the biggest difference in your daily life since you started receiving payments from GiveDirectly.
There is a big difference between before the transfer and after the transfer. I was living in extreme poverty and hardly was able to buy some food or clothes. I am now able to buy some food, utensils and clothes for my child and I. The thing I had always dreamed of aving was having my very own land and sleeping on a mattress. I was able to achieve all that through GD's first transfer and I can not wait for the second transfer
Describe the moment when you received your money. How did you feel?
I was home with my child and he was the one to notice I had received my first transfer. I so thrilled to receive my first transfer. I bought a piece of land that I had always wanted to buy, a pig and some food and clothes. Buying some land is a very bigv accomplishment and something I had very hard prayed for. I thank GiveDirectly for everything.

What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
The main challenge I am facing is loneliness, living alone at home is a challenge as I told you my wife left me 6 years ago and she went with my last born. we have 5 children and 4 others are adults now they went looking for jobs in other places like Kigali and Kayonza. The other challenge is that I don't have any livestock at home and because of that it's not easy for me to get manure that I can use in my agricultural activities, hence the low production which results in having insufficient food at home. In our region it's not possible to grow crops without using manure and expect production. It's impossible, whether being sweet potatoes, beans or other crops can not grow without manure.
What is the happiest part of your day?
Nothing special happened in the last 6 months but I can say that when I have food at home I feel happy because I am assured that I will not go to sleep with an empty stomach.
What do you plan to do with the cash transfer?
The first thing I'm planning to do is to buy a pig that will help me to get manure and it will cost $100. The other is to renovate my house as you can see it has no doors for rooms and cover it with sand and cement. Those activities will cost $200. In addition,I will buy a cow that will help me in the future, because when you have a cow you have money, you can meet an emergency that needs money and sell the cow without forgetting that it will hep me to get manure also. The cow will cost $200. The rest of money will be spent on household needs like mattress and food stuffs.
