Describe the moment when you received your money. How did you feel?
One morning I woke up from bed, I decided to do some work around my house, while working, I heard a message alarm from my phone, I hurriedly ran to get it because we have been expecting a transfer message from GiveDirectly for sometimes now. When I got the phone, I checked the message to know what it says, fortunately for me, it was the transfer message from GiveDirectly that we have been waiting for. I was so happy for the money because getting money has been a challenge for the past months. There are things that I really wanted to do but couldn't because of lack of money.
Describe the biggest difference in your daily life since you started receiving payments from GiveDirectly.
I have been struggling to send my five children to school over the years, the crops that we labor on don't give us the money that we really need and selling our goods for more profit is another challenge, but through this transfer I was able to settle my children school fees and other expenses without any trouble. I am now more relaxed than ever before.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
I used my most recent transfer to pay my son graduation fess, he just graduated from secondary School, I also bought matress to sleep on because the one I was using got damage ever since but I was just managing with it because of my condition, I also pay my other four children school fees and the balance amount was used to buy food.

What does receiving this money mean to you?
I planned to buy cement to plaster the wall of my house and the floor, see how dusty the house is. I am the only one responsible for my children's schools, though, they are living with people in Monrovia, I have to pay their fees So I will use a portion of my transfer towards their school. If my house is completed, and my children are in school then everything is ok for me because my future is in their hands.
What is the happiest part of your day?
As a single man, waking up early in the morning to go working on my coal base, I was so happy in September when I produced 30 bags of coal, I sold the coal and earned 10500 LBR and that day was a payday for my son and I.
What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
My main challenge now is financing to enable me to educate my children. Currently, I have 4 children who are in school now. Food is my challenge as well because I am not engaged in rice farming due to the bird's damages to rice farmers here. I usually purchase 25kg bags of rice every month and 1 bag is sold for LBR 2600.
