How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
A lot has happened in my life ever since I received the transfers but the fact that I now own dairy cows and good beddings make the biggest difference in my daily life. With the cows, I will be getting milk which I have been buying from my neighbors at a high cost, and sometimes I could not afford it at all. Apart from that, I will start selling the milk and getting some money in return. This will be my source of income and I am hoping it will uplift my living standard. I will be able to cater to meet my family's basic needs. Also with the beddings, I am now sleeping comfortably and I no longer complain about back pains like I used to do. I would not have achieved all these if it were not for the financial support.
In your opinion, what does GiveDirectly do well, and what does it not do well?
In my opinion, GiveDirectly does well in almost all sectors in my region. This is because no one could be left out provided you are among the residents. Secondly, the money was sent directly to our mobile phones and this was the best because everyone had his or her own needs in our households.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
I spent part of my second transfer on buying two dairy cows worthy of KES 30000. I have been yearning to own livestock in my homestead but due to the poverty life that had stricken my household and the fact that I am a widow and jobless, I could not afford it. To add to that, I purchased some bedding which includes a mattress and a new wooden bed. These were to replace the old ones that I was using for all those years. Also with the remaining amount of money, I bought enough foodstuffs for my family.

Describe the moment when you received your money. How did you feel?
It was exactly 8 in the morning when we were having breakfast with my family then my phone started ringing. One of my grandchildren decided to check what the notification was all about. On checking, he realized it was an Mpesa message from GiveDirectly, they had debited my first transfer as promised. I get so happy on receiving such great news that that morning.
Describe the biggest difference in your daily life since you started receiving payments from GiveDirectly.
The biggest difference in my daily life is that I can proudly mention ever since GiveDirectly came into my life is that I now own dairy cows. For all those years I have really been longing to keep them in my compound but I could not afford it and I could only admire those of my neighbors. Having them in my life has mad me to be the most joyous person on earth. This is because currently, the cows produce plenty of milk whereby some are for family consumption. I am planning to sell the remaining litres to the local markets. I will save the little money that I will be earning and send my grandchildren to school and also meet some of their daily needs ie food.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
I spent part of my first transfer on buying two dairy cows. I have really have been aspiring to own them so so long time but I could not afford to purchase them because they were too expensive. I addition I bought a new wooded bed to replace the traditional one that I have been using for all those years. I also bought some bags of cement and sand to renovate my house which had holes in all of the walls. With the remaining amount of money, I bought enough foodstuff for my family.
