How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
The new goal that I didn't have before receiving the transfer is purchasing a dairy cow. I depend on casual jobs in the village and the amount of money that I get through this is so small. I didn't know that I will be in a position to purchase a dairy. I am so happy now because I no longer buy milk.
In your opinion, what does GiveDirectly do well, and what does it not do well?
GiveDirectly does well by giving money to the poor in the community without discrimination, most people spent the money on purchasing building materials and paying the school fees for their children. I do not find anything that GiveDirectly did not do well.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
I spent KES 45,000 to purchase a dairy cow. I used to buy milk daily and this was so costly for me. I do not have a continuous source of income. I depend on casual jobs and small-scale farming which earns me a small income. For the rest of the money, I bought food and clothes for my children. I am so grateful for the support because GiveDirectly has enabled me to buy a dairy cow.

Describe the moment when you received your money. How did you feel?
It was around 9.00a.mand I was home alone when I received a message on my phone and upon checking it was an MPESA message from Givedirectly.I felt so happy that the plans I had would finally commence and went to withdraw the money later in the day.
Describe the biggest difference in your daily life since you started receiving payments from GiveDirectly.
The biggest difference in my daily activities is the joy of having an heifer which will soon calf and we will able to get more milk and also having furniture that we obtained gives me joy since we no longer have to borrow from neighbours whenever we have visitors.I am grateful to Givedirectly for impacting my household in a bigger way.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
Receiving this money meant a lot to me .With the long to-do list, first I purchased a heifer worth Ksh.20,000 which added to my livestock that I had because this will be helpful in future since once it has calfed, I will have surplus milk and I can sell to get an extra income.I also bought furniture at Kshs, 20,000 because I didn't have I woul borrow from my neighbours whenever I have visitors which was embarrassing.Atleast I can now own some sets of furniture and not having to worry of going around borrowing.Currently, I am tilling my land so that I can plant my crops which will feed my family in a couple of months and so far I have spent Kshs.5,000 both labour and purchase of seeds.Lastly, with the remaining amount I obtained food and clothing for my household members.

What does receiving this money mean to you?
Its means that I can now own a cow. I have cow but it belongs to a relative and he can come for it at any time. This has really stressed me out since I was worried he could come for it and leave my Children without milk. I have financial challenges and and this has made me depend on other people for casually jobs. Getting those jobs has really been difficult and when one find it, it does not pay much and all the money will go into purchasing food for my family. The cow I am expecting to buy will cost around KES 30000. This cow will enable us to get milk for my household and if Surplus I will sell to generate income.
What is the happiest part of your day?
The happiest part of my day is in the afternoon. This is when I have finished my daily chores and get to rest.
What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
The biggest hardship has been lack of money. I depend on casual jobs for a living of which its never promising that you will get one the next day. I mostly depend on my husband who works in construction sites away from home. This is something that i have not been happy about since I cannot lend a hand.
