How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
First of all, I would wish to build a decent house for my family. This is because the family size is growing and the house that I occupy is small. Additionally, I plan on adding another cow for sustainability. To realise these goals, I plan on saving $30 from my monthly salary to accomplish them.
In your opinion, what does GiveDirectly do well, and what does it not do well?
In my opinion, the organization lifted our living standards, especially for the less fortunate in society who were living in abject poverty. The organization was true to its word by keeping its promises and working diligently. I never saw things that needed to be corrected on how the organization does its work.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
Buying a dairy cow for my family was the ultimate goal that I had in mind before receiving my transfer, I could not raise the funds to realise it because I was servicing a loan from my employer, and my salary is small because I haven't been absorbed by the government. I am married and blessed with one child. Upon receiving my transfer, I bought a cow worth $140 to reduce the cost of milk, which was expensive, and two litres sold at $1 which I can hardly afford. Thereafter, I bought foodstuffs for $112 and lastly; I cleared my college fee arrears, thus picking my certificate which gave me peace of mind. The support from the organization has tremendously changed my life, thus I am forever grateful.

Describe the moment when you received your money. How did you feel?
I was very happy when I realized that I had received the most awaited transfer from GiveDirectly. At the moment, I was in huge debt after taking my spouse to the hospital, and receiving the transfer was a great relief. It was around 8:00 PM with my family, on informing them they were all excited. I could not withdraw at that moment since it was late, but on the following day, I collected in the nearby shopping center.
Describe the biggest difference in your daily life since you started receiving payments from GiveDirectly.
The biggest difference in my daily life is the enormous investment in livestock after receiving the first transfer. The investment has stood as an asset that will always come in handy in case of an emergency and also while venturing into other income-generating projects. I am grateful to GiveDirectly for the generous support and hope to do a lot when I receive the second transfer.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
I was grateful to receive the first transfer as promised during enrollment by GiveDirectly. I had a lot planned before receiving the money, but on top of my list was to invest in livestock. From the first transfer, I spent KES 28000 on two heifers that I am happy to see them grow. I also spent KES 13650 on clearing a debt that I had with a neighbor who had supported me when I was taking my wife to the hospital. I am glad that he was patient enough and could not hold back but pay him as soon as I collected my transfer. In addition, I spent KES 3300 on foodstuff for my family of three, KES 2200 on buying four pieces of ceiling board which I am currently using in the interior completion of my house, KES 1300 on obtaining five plastic chairs, and the remaining on buying other household goods that were still missing.

What does receiving this money mean to you?
This money will help me to pay for my wife medication. We are married for two years but every time she is pregnant miscarriage occur within three months of pregnancy. Apart from other problems like not having a cow and small house, Give Directly money will help us overcome the medical bills. We are so happy and relieved that time round we may succeed to maintain her pregnancy courtesy of Give Directly financial help
What is the happiest part of your day?
I passed my college exam which I had failed for two times. It was relieve to because I can now get a certificate to secure an employment opportunity
What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
Not having a baby after two years of marriage is what keep us worried. We are trying everything possible to get good medication that will help my wife maintain her pregnancy to the last day. She is currently pregnant and we are so hopeful. Her mediation is costing us a lot.
