How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
My prayer is that God grants me good health so that I can concentrate on other things rather than my health. If everything goes well, I'd like to buy another parcel to add to the one I already have. Furthermore, I hope that my grandchildren excel in their studies so that they can have a better future.
In your opinion, what does GiveDirectly do well, and what does it not do well?
The transfer from GiveDirectly was tailored to our specific requirements. GiveDirectly is at the top of the bar in its operations; I am fortunate to have been among the recipients of the unconditional transfer, which has improved the lives of so many people in my village; it is clear that my people needed financial support, for which I will be eternally grateful.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
The transfers from GiveDirectly were a huge relief to me. This is because I had an operation that damaged my windpipe, and the doctors were forced to insert a pipe to save it. This has forced me to rely on my children and well-wishers because I am incapable of doing anything on my own. I am the mother of six grown-up children. Even though I live with my two grandchildren. I spent $250 on a dairy cow after receiving my transfer. Then afterward used the rest of my medication. I am so grateful for GiveDirectly's assistance that I was able to attend the check-up without having to rely on my children for a short time.

Describe the moment when you received your money. How did you feel?
I was grateful when I first received a message from GiveDirectly that confirmed the receipt of the first transfer. I was at home at that moment with my two grandchildren and the information on the message was so exciting that everyone could not hide their joy. It was a sigh of hope to me after struggling for a long time with the cost of medication after a throat operation that I had. With this money, I was certain that I will do a lot that had been lagging.
Describe the biggest difference in your daily life since you started receiving payments from GiveDirectly.
The biggest difference in my daily life is the relief and ease of my daily activities after stoking enough foodstuff for my family of three and no longer dependent on my elder children to buy me food. Seeking medication has been easier too compared to the previous months when I had no money. I am grateful and hopeful to make more transformations in the future.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
Before receiving the first transfer, I had already laid down plans on how best I could spend once received. I spent the first KES 25000 on buying a heifer that I am currently rearing with the hope of breeding in the future both for milk production and also for procreation. I also paid KES 20000 for a piece of land in the neighborhood since I had been farming on small land and could not afford to lease an additional piece for m,y children. I spent part of the remaining on buying foodstuff worth KES 6000, and the remaining amount on check-ups when I visited the hospital. When I receive the second transfer, I hope to do more because of the amazing support I received from GiveDirectly.

What does receiving this money mean to you?
I have had three surgeries in the past two years for a recurring illness. Although I am almost free from that illness, I am left with so many challenges while treating it. I have to go for monthly check-ups that require money for transport and the doctor's fee. I also have medicine that I have to take for the rest of my life. Receiving this money will ease this because I plan on taking a medical cover plan for this and buying a dairy cow to be my source of income through selling milk because I am not able to do the heavy jobs that I did before.
What is the happiest part of your day?
Getting positive results every month about my condition has brought me happiness. I am grateful for life and also that my condition is responding well to medication.
What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
Having to buy medicine for my condition together with monthly checkups has drained me financially. I cannot do other things with the money that I get because I have to save to have my condition checked. It has also affected my daily life because I cannot go about my work like before and I have to rely on my children for money and food.
