How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
I finally managed to build a house through the money I got from Give Directly. This wouldn't possible to build any time soon since I couldn't afford to raise money for constructing a house. Apart from that, I am happy that I was able to pay school fees for my child who is secondary school. My child had been sent home for school fees because I did not have a reliable source of income to enable me to pay his school fees. He had stayed home for two weeks and I was afraid he would perform poorly because he had missed several lessons. I thank God I finally managed to clear his fee balance and he can now study without being interrupted.
In your opinion, what does GiveDirectly do well, and what does it not do well?
I always believe that Give Directly was heaven sent. We have been praying year in year out for aids to enable us to feed our families more so during the dry season and I am happy that finally, God heard our prayers. I love my village it's only we don't have enough resources that would help us improve our lives. The climatic conditions of this place are also very harsh and nothing can barely grow. But I thank GIve Directly for helping us with the monthly transfers. At least we can start a business and improve our living standards
What did you spend your second transfer on?
The second transfers which I have received from Give Directly. I was so glad to receive it because I knew my long term goals will finally be achieved. I spent part of it to buy a cow. I had been yearning to buy one for a long time now but kept on postponing buying it because I didn't have enough money to buy it until GD came to my life. I used to spend almost KES 100 daily to buy milk. This used to be costly to me since only depend on casual jobs to cater for my family needs. Now I got to milk 2 litres per day which is sufficient to sustain us the whole day.

Describe the biggest difference in your daily life.
The biggest difference in my daily life is that I paid my children's school fees. I am now at peace since my children are in school. All along I've always had my children in and out of school on a regular basis because of lack of school fees. I was always worried my children will fail so terribly in exams and I feared that I would be the blame.
Describe the moment when you received your money. How did you feel?
I was woken up by a message notifying me that I had received the transfers at 5.00 am. I immediately woke my wife up and shared the good news. We immediately lost sleep as we were really excited. My wife then woke up and started preparing breakfast for us to take. We then took breakfast and quickly prepared ourselves to head for a nearby centre to withdraw the money. We were so early that we found all the shops closed but the anxiety to get the money in cash kept us waiting in the cold for the shops to open.
What did you spend your first transfer on?
I spent KES 25000 of transfers in building a new house. I then used KES 15000 to pay my children's school fees in secondary. I then bought 2 bags of maize worth KES 6000.The rest of the amount towards my medication. I was hit by a tree in my right eye and I have been on and off the hospital.

What does receiving this money mean to you?
My greatest ambition has been to practise dairy farming. There is a high demand for milk in my county headquarter which lack of money,to buy dairy cattle, has been hindering me from taking advantage. Receiving this money will mean that I'll be able to buy some dairy cattle. The proceeds from the sale of dairy products will help me in paying my children's school fees and in construction of a decent house for my family.
What is the happiest part of your day?
Being a casual labourer(repairing plastic items),my day entails moving from house to house in search of plastic to be repaired. The movement is abit tiring because I, at times, forced to walk when the sun is scorching. In the evening,I head home to reunite with my family. This is also the time that I take with me some food stuff purchased using the cash collected from my hustle during the day.The assurance that my family is able to have some food stuff in the evening makes me feel happy at this time.
What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
The hard economic times has really made life hard for my household.Fending for my family has really proofed to be difficult undertaking owing to the fact that we solely depend on inconsistent casual jobs (repairing plastics, weeding and digging people's farms)to keep us moving.None of my family member is in any gainful employment. Thus, this has actually made it hard to raise fees for our children.Education has of late become expensive.Raising school fees for my children continues to worry me.
