Describe the biggest difference in your daily life.
Owning some goats is the biggest difference in my daily life. I could not have acquired any if I were to buy them at my own cost considering the financial hardship I was facing before GiveDirectly came us. I really value them as assets. I am expecting them to increase in number, so that I can readily sell the offsprings to meet future financial needs like educating my children.
Describe the moment when you received your money. How did you feel?
I received a message alert early in the morning. I waited for my helper at daybreak who checked and confirmed to me that it was from GiveDirectly informing me that I had finally received my first transfer. I felt happy and thanked them for their financial help.
What did you spend your first transfer on?
I spent KES 10400 of my first transfer to buy five goats. I decided to purchase them because I know once they reproduce and increase in number, I will have something to depend on in case I am faced with a financial problem. In addition to this, my children have been seeking shelter at night from the neighborhood and as a parent, I was not at peace seeing them in this situation. Because of this, I purchased some building materials which include pieces of iron sheets and building poles to build a house for them. I know once this house is complete, then my children will no longer be troubled to seek shelter elsewhere. Apart from all this, I also bought a new bed to replace the old traditional bed that I have been using. I did some household shopping on foodstuffs and other necessities for my family, and paying for some daily household expenses on the remaining amount.
