How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
Comparing my current life and how it would have been if I had not received the transfers has a really great difference. The livestock which I never had are now with us, and even the other agricultural sectors which were initially dormant are now active. We have increased the land under cultivation and also managed yo construct two new houses.
In your opinion, what does GiveDirectly do well, and what does it not do well?
In my opinion, GiveDirectly did well by coming up with the decision to help everyone in the village. The transfers came in the same amount to everyone whether you were better or poor financially. I saw this as a fair way of supporting the whole village without any bias. Looking at what never went well, It is really hard to even imagine that something never turned out as we had expected. All that we were promised came to pass and we still thank GiveDirectly for their kept promises.
What did you spend your second transfer on?
After receiving the second transfer, I decided to spend part of it on the construction of two houses; a small kitchen and another bigger house to accommodate all the members of my household. I also bought ten sacks of which we have been using as foodstuff and the remaining amount went to the payment of school fees and the labor fee for the constructors who were working on my two houses.

What does receiving this money mean to you?
Receiving this money means that we shall start living a happy life like "other households." We shall build a better house, buy a cow and clear hospital bill of about Ksh. 8,000. The hospital withheld my ID card because of the pending bill - and that has denied me ownership of a SIM card.
What is the happiest part of your day?
The happiest part of my day is at the evening when returning from my casual work with some food for my family. This means that we shall have something to eat and hence life would continue.
What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
In the year 2007, my wife suffered from chronic typhoid that costed us a lot. She was admitted at Tenwek Hospital for about one month. Accordingly, hospital bill accumulated to approximately Ksh. 32,000. Since we had nothing of our own, nor funds to settle the bill, we sought finacial aid from my father. Unfortunately, the bill was not cleared, and thus the hospital withheld my ID. Hence, I have been suffering by living without an ID - I can not secure good jobs or contracts because I lack the crucial document.
