How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
My life is different than it would have been if I never received the transfer because I am now a proud owner of a dairy cow and a heifer. These are assets that I did not have before and I can lean on incase of financial challenges. I believe that it will be calving soon and my family will have enough milk for consumption and sale. This will also enable us to reduce our daily expenditure. Also, I have been able to practice some subsistence farming after a long time and I am now glad since I no longer buying most of the farm products as I now plant them. This would not have been possible since I could not have managed to buy the land had it not have been for GiveDirectly.
In your opinion, what does GiveDirectly do well, and what does it not do well?
In my opinion, GiveDirectly did well by honoring their promise to us and I do not see anything that they did not do well.
What did you spend your second transfer on?
I spent part of my second transfer to buy a piece of land in our neighboring village. We settled on this as a family since the one we had is small and one cannot practice even subsistence farming. Purchasing this piece of land has enabled us to practice subsistence farming. On the remaining amount, I built a house for my family. this is because the one we were living in was small and could not accommodate us comfortably.

Describe the biggest difference in your daily life.
My daily life is currently different from how it was before because I have been able to start a business using my transfers. Due to this, I now have a stable source of income. This has enabled me to meet our daily needs on time without depending too much on my spouse. I am hoping to expand this business with time so that I can maximize the profits I will be getting.
Describe the moment when you received your money. How did you feel?
It was around 3 am when I received an alert on my phone. Since I was awake at that time, I decided to check and know who would have sent me a message at that hour. Upon realizing that GiveDirectly had sent me the promised money, I became so happy as I knew that I would be able to also own a cow just like other people in our village.
What did you spend your first transfer on?
When I received my first transfer, I spent it to buy a dairy cow and a heifer. I am hoping that the dairy cow will be calving soon and I will be able to get milk and earn an income which I will use in paying school fees for my children. Also, it will relieve me of the cost of buying milk daily. I used the remaining amount to start a business of buying and selling second-hand clothes. I settled on starting a business so that I will always have a source of income to depend on even after GiveDirectly will have stopped giving us the financial support.

What does receiving this money mean to you?
Receiving this money means that I will be able to buy a Dairy cow.Dairy farming does well in this area and there is always ready market for milk.Once I have this cow,I know that all the other needs that my family has will be easily met through the sale of milk.I also see this as an investment because in the coming years I will have a number of cows and hence a better income for my family
What is the happiest part of your day?
The happiest part of my day is mid- morning. It is during this time that I embark on my farming activities i.e tilling, planting e.t.c.While working there,am always happy because I know that it is through this hardwork that my family is provided for every single day.Since I love my family, this therefore motivates me to work even harder.
What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
In 2017,I gave birth to our firstborn daughter.I developed complications during delivery that necessitated close monitoring and admission at the nearest hospital. We stayed in the hospital for close to two weeks and with each passing day,the hospital bill kept going up.This really strained us financially considering the fact that my spouse and I do not have any stable means of income except for our small farm. This is the biggest hardship I have faced.
