Describe the moment when you received your money. How did you feel?
I had heard people earlier that day saying that they had received money from GiveDirectly and I was axously waiting to receive mine. When I finally got to receive a message I asked my helper to help me check the contents of the message and I was happy that I had received a sum of KES 55 000 from GiveDirectly. I felt so happy that I was finally going to buy livestock. As I had committed to do and be empowered to me any financial challenges that may come my way in future.
Describe the biggest difference in your daily life since you started receiving payments from GiveDirectly.
I live a much more decent life than I have lives before and I am so happy for the support I received from GiveDirectly. The dairy cow that I bought has changed my life by a great extent and offered. E the dignity that comes with ownership of livestock as a form of living assets in my community. I had sold all my livestock to try and give an education to my children and I wa left with nothing in my compound. I look forward to even. Better living standards once the cow start producing milk.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
I used KES 45000 to buy one dairy cow and used the remaining amount of KES 10000 to buy food and other basic household needs for my family. I also remained with some amount that helped me to gather for medical bills for my child who has been ailing for sometime and as such needed urgent medical attention. The decision to buy a dairy cow wa informed by the fact that I did not have any dairy cow having sold all of them to pay school fees for my children. It was so embarrassing for an elderly man like me to have no livestock in the compound whereas this would be the only source of income for me.

What does receiving this money mean to you?
Receiving this money means a better living standard for me, I am an old man without a dairy cow, in our culture, every man should at least have a cow in the family so we are respected by the rest. For the longest time now, I do not own one hence I buy milk daily at KES 40. Being old and having no support to rely on it has been very hard for me. I plan to buy two Dairy cows worth KES 35,000 each. The cows will give me roughly 10 liters a day and I will have milk for the family consumption and surplus to sell. The remaining will use it to build a small kitchen since the main house is acting as a kitchen and bedroom.
What is the happiest part of your day?
Two months ago, my elder son visited me in the village. He bought me beddings and foodstuffs and I was very happy since I no longer sleep on the floor, I now have a bed, mattress, and heavy blankets to keep me warm.
What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
The current challenge I am facing is financial constraints. Due to my age, I am no longer able to work like before. I depend on my sons but sometimes they do not have enough since they have their families to attend to. This has been the most challenging part of my life.
