Describe the moment when you received your money. How did you feel?
I have a family of six including five children and taking care of such without a significant source of income is hard. So, the moment I got this transfer I was so happy and relived because I knew I could now afford to take of the family starting with a comfortable house, big enough for the family, and beddings. In short, it was one of the happiest days of my life.
Describe the biggest difference in your daily life since you started receiving payments from GiveDirectly.
I have a very small house that does not comfortably house my family of six. In addition to that, I had a bad maize yield last year due to erratic rains. Further, as a family we lacked proper beddings. I could not afford all these things with my income but with the transfers, all these things have been sorted. I am not in the process of building a bigger house, I have bought mattresses for the whole household and we have enough food. Life is more comfortable now.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
I have spent most of the money on my new house project. I have bought some building materials such as iron sheets and I am making bricks. My current house is very small to comfortably house the whole household of six individuals hence the need for a new house. In addition to that, I have also bought some things we were lacking such as mattresses, blankets and of course maize. I had a bad harvest last year and my maize stock was not enough.

What does receiving this money mean to you?
This means a lot to me. I am so grateful for this program. I hired people who are moulding bricks and the money is coming at a right time when I am planning of building of a house. My work will be simplified because I will use the money to buy iron sheets and some bags of cement. I will use part of the money to buy food. My children do not have nice clothes and I will buy some clothes for them.
What is the happiest part of your day?
I am always happy when I am sharing food with my family which is usually during lunch and evening hours.
What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
The main challenge is food. My harvest is always little for the year.
