How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
Prior to receiving GiveDirectly's transfers, Life was very difficult in terms of feeding, dressing and transportation. We could have a single meal a day with poor diet and we dressed on worn out clothes that portrayed our poverty . In addition to that, I used to sleep in a grass thatched house which leaked when it rains. We could get up in the night to fold off our beddings and stand from one corner of the house until the rains stop. When GD sent transfers, My standards of living improved tremendously in that I have constructed a iron roofed house that has brought joy, peace, happiness and pride to my family. We no longer fold our beddings when it rains. Lastly, We managed to procure a motorbike for a bodaboda business which generates daily income for day to day running of the family in terms of basic needs like food, clothes among others.
In your opinion, what does GiveDirectly do well, and what does it not do well?
In my view, GD did well to sensitize the community about their program which enlightened the community and giving us chance to choose for ourselves how to spend the transfers based on our needs. Everything went on well and nothing wrong done by GD.
What did you spend your second transfer on?
I bought building materials like cement, bricks, iron sheets door and window plus paying labour for house construction.

Describe the biggest difference in your daily life.
As a family, we have bought a motorbike that is currently doing transportation business. I am very happy now because my family needs(food, paying schools and medical bills) are met in time. Transportation for the family members has been made very easy with this motorbike. We no longer walk on foot and I have got back my piece of land that had been taken by the money lender. Previously, our family's challenge was lack of a stable source of income and transportation.
Describe the moment when you received your money. How did you feel?
The moment I received this transfer, I became very happy and Immediately started planning where to withdraw it the then morning, with the aim of purchasing a motorbike and paying off a debt that I had.
What did you spend your first transfer on?
I gave my spouse UGX 1,000,000 of my first transfer to top up and purchase a motorbike. I then spent UGX 400,000 to pay off a debt that made me repossess my pieces of land that had acted as security, I also bought a mattress, bed and utensils at UGX 300,000.
