How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
Because I had been longing to start and run my own business. I have not been having any source of income or a job. Therefore, immediately after I received my transfer I developed a new goal of venturing into a business. I am very optimistic that through my business, I shall be able to raise daily income. As a result, I shall be able to buy easily support my family members. Therefore, acquiring food as well as paying school fees for my children. I am so grateful to GiveDirectly for such a massive help.
In your opinion, what does GiveDirectly do well, and what does it not do well?
GiveDirectly, in my opinion, does a good job of offer unconditional cash transfers to everyone who qualifies for its financial assistance. I have never seen any organization that operates like that. It never shows any favoritism and its processes are not influenced by any member of the community. As a result, there is a noticeable change in the community. Some are raising livestock and obtaining food, which was unthinkable only a few months ago. In contrast, because everyone enrolled in the program is so enthusiastic about the assistance, there is nothing it does poorly.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
My primary goal had been to construct a new home because the previous one was old and leaking. I spent KES 20,000 on iron sheets immediately after receiving my second transfer. I currently live in a new large house. Moreover, I was always suffering from a pressure-related condition. I decided to spend some money on drugs. It has greatly aided me, and I have made some progress. Finally, I spent KES 14,000 on a bed and a mattress, so I now have better bedding. The others assisted me in purchasing food. I was always spending money on a ripped-off mat.

Describe the moment when you received your money. How did you feel?
I was busy fetching firewood so that I may prepare dinner for my family. I heard several message alerts on my phone, I remember it was around 4:30 pm. I had to continue with my activity until I end since I could not understand the message because I am uneducated. After reaching home I informed my helper who checked my phone and told me that it was the transfer from GiveDirectly. I was extremely happy for receiving my transfer since I first thought it was a scam and I would not obtain the cash.
Describe the biggest difference in your daily life since you started receiving payments from GiveDirectly.
The biggest difference in my life is that I am currently spending my night on proper beddings which are more comfortable. I was not imagining that I would sleep on proper bedding in my lifetime due to our financial status. In addition, I was able to seek medical care with the help of my transfer and now I am feeling better than before.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
For some years, I have been having a kidney problem and high blood pressure which has been disturbing me a lot. This has made me unable to work, I lacked the finances to seek medical care. I spent KES 3,000 on medication. Currently, I am happy that I am recovering well. Furthermore, I intend to undergo several screenings to identify the root cause of the kidney issues. I also bought building materials which I intended to construct a decent shelter for my family this is because the house ours had broken walls and I was suffering a lot due to the cold weather at night. In addition, I bought proper beddings for KES 11,150, earlier I was using a traditional bed and an old torn mat which was not comfortable at all. Lastly, I bought two goats as a long-term investment for myself since lam jobless and unable to work.

What does receiving this money mean to you?
Since I was diagnosed with high pressure, my life has never been the same(incapacitated). Receiving this money means good health as I will be able to get medical care. I do occasionally experience lower abdominal pains. A doctor suggested I should go for an X-ray. All these require money which presently has proved to be a challenge.
What is the happiest part of your day?
The source of my happiness is that the Lord has never forsaken me. Challenges are part of us humans but He is mighty and through Him nothing is impossible. My fellow followers at church do frequently visit and encourage me. The fact that I am not in this alone is enough reason to keep me going.
What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
Being unwholesome is my greatest challenge. This has made me not able to provide for myself. I have now resorted to relying on my child for support( medicine and food).
