How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
My life is different now in that, I sleeping in a complete iron roofed house. I built this house sometime back and was unable to complete it due to lack of finances. I did not have a bicycle for ferry water from the borehole which was too far from home but after receiving this money I decided to purchase one. I'm now self employed because I ride my motorbike which I bought using GD transfers and when I have an emergency, This bike has helped me a lot handle such cases. Prior to receiving this money, I had cursed my life and had no hope in life because I have a family of two children, orphans of my brother and my wife. Each day I used to wonder doing casual labor to earn money that can support my family. I'm so grateful because life has tremendously changed courtesy of GD transfers.
In your opinion, what does GiveDirectly do well, and what does it not do well?
In my opinion, When I'm leaving home for Bukedea town and a long the way I see iron roofed houses that never existed in my community before GD's intervention. Youths have been able to buy motorbike that they use for boda boda business. Those who had not married their spouses have now married them. GD has brought development into my community because the idle youths are now occupied with small businesses they started using these transfers. However, I urge GD to enroll each and every person in the community at once without skipping anyone during the process. For example I was skipped and later on when I had given up on the program, The field team came looking for me after I went through much trauma.
What did you spend your second transfer on?
I spent my second transfer on Purchasing a motorcycle that will generate daily income to support my family's basic needs. Before getting this money, I used to struggle doing casual labor like working in construction sites as an helper and in people's gardens. This work was so tiring and shameful to me. So I decided to put my whole transfer to invest on a motorcycle.

Describe the biggest difference in your daily life.
Speaking the truth my brother I have been going through hard times with my mother since our dad died when I was at the age of 5 and I don't have any job to earn income. The change I have realized in my daily life is that, I have managed to complete the construction of my house. I have also bought a bicycle for fetching water which has been a big challenge for me at home. If there was a way this donor could come down to my place I would slaughter for him a bull because in this world I have never seen a person distributing money to the people he/she doesn't know or met.
Describe the moment when you received your money. How did you feel?
Speaking the truth I got scared because first of all I never saw the name Give Directly but for money sender In the message section. I thought it was online scammers who had forwarded the message and I decided to cross check my mobile money account and indeed money was there and I know this transfers come at night. I became so happy from that time and the entire day because I knew all my plans for completing my house are getting nearer to fulfillment.
What did you spend your first transfer on?
First of all I had started the construction on the house but it was incomplete and when I got this transfer I decided to resume the construct works. I cement, sand and paid labor all took Ugx 1000000. Since I didn't have a bicycle for ferrying water for construction I also bought a bike at Ugx 270000. I also paid school fees for my son at Ugx 300000 and the remaining 10000 I spent it on food and transport ugx 30000.
