Describe the moment when you received your money. How did you feel?
I did receive an SMS that my transfer is in. I just heard from people that the transfer is in and I thought that I have been missed. I called my helper to assist me in checking my Airtel money balance and the money was in. I felt relieved and I was very happy.
Describe the biggest difference in your daily life since you started receiving payments from GiveDirectly.
The money came at the right time. I had nothing in my house but thanks to GD because my life has changed for the better. I managed to buy cement so that I can improve my house, managed to pay school fees, managed to buy fertilizer. Honestly, I couldn't have done all this by myself. I am so grateful.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
I have been facing challenges to finish my house which I built sometime back. The money gave me an opportunity to start working on my house. I bought 7 bags of cement for plastering. I also had no chairs to accommodate visitors and I bought 3 plastic chairs. I also had debt amounting to MK 89 000 which I paid using the transfer. The money was also enough to pay school fees for my secondary school student. I am also grateful because I managed to buy 2 bags of fertilizer.

What does receiving this money mean to you?
I am very thankful that I have received this money. This money will help me reduce some of the challenges that I face.I have planned that I will use this money to finish building my house. I want to cover the rest of the house with plaster. I will also use it to buy new iron sheets because the one that I have are old. I also want to buy clothes for my children. I also want to use some some of the money to pay school fees so that my children can succeed in life.
What is the happiest part of your day?
I am happy when I have enough food.i am also happy when I have managed to buy clothes for myself and children. I have not been happy for the last six months because I do not have a business. I had 25 bags of maize but now I have 6 bags because I had to sell some of the maize to make money to buy other needs such as clothes.
What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
Currently, I am facing a lot of challenges. I used to do business since 1993 but now I no longer do business due to sickness. I do not make enough money I depend on my child who is in South Africa. I do not have money to start a business so right now I lack money.
