How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
My life as changed ever since I received transfers from GiveDirectly. We now eat healthy meals. We hardly miss any meal because I bought food in bulk which will sustain us for a long period of time. I look healthier and more energetic because I don't engage in several casual jobs in order to put food in my table. I do casual jobs to supplement what I already have and meet my other needs. I also look decent now that I was able to buy new clothes and shoes. Clearly, there is an impact of GiveDirectly money in my life.
In your opinion, what does GiveDirectly do well, and what does it not do well?
The fact that Give Directly visits each household is a clear indication that they are not biased and they give everybody in the village a chance to benefit from the project. I feel its a good gesture since I don't have to know someone or making friends with the village elder so as to increase my chances of getting help from Give Directly.
What did you spend your second transfer on?
I spent my recent transfers to pay schools fees. I had a school fee arrears and my children used to be sent home more often. I am glad I was able to clear the fees and my children will now be able to study peacefully without being distracted. To add on that I decided to buy maize in bulk since it was a harvesting season the maize was cheaper and the amount I bought would last us up to the next season. I am also proud of my self because I don't think I would achieve all these by myself without the help of Give Directly.

Describe the biggest difference in your daily life.
Ever since I have been having some school fees arrears being carried forward to the next year. This was the opposite last year as I was able to clear my children's school fees using the money I received from GD. This really changed my daily life since I no longer have so many thoughts on where to get money to use in paying the lump sum arrears of school fees. The thought of my children not being sent back home to fetch school fees also makes me a happier parent.
Describe the moment when you received your money. How did you feel?
It was around 4 am when I suddenly woke up after having a nightmare of having received a lump sum amount of money from an unknown person asking me to use the money to pay for my children's school fees. I immediately prayed and asked God to bless me so that I could get a way of solving my problems. After the prayer, I decided to check what time it was and it is then that I realized that I had some unread messages and upon checking them, my heart was filled with happiness as one of the messages indicated that I had received money from Givedirectly. I then started singing loudly not caring if I was disturbing my neighbors who were still sleeping and I also prayed to thank God for his blessings in my life on that particular day.
What did you spend your first transfer on?
I am a single mother and paying school fees for my three children in school was a great challenge to me. This had led to me having a lot of arrears which had accumulated over time. When I received my first transfers, I decided to use part of it to pay school fees for them so as to reduce the amount of arrears I had. For the last two seasons, maize has not been doing so well in our place due to infestation by diseases and lack of enough rains. This has led to the shortage of food in our area. After paying my children's school fees, I used the remaining amount in the purchase of two sacks of maize so that it would last us for some time.

What does receiving this money mean to you?
Receiving this money means that my children's school fees for 2019 will be settled.I have children in both secondary school and University.Being a widow,am the sole provider and sometimes they are sent home to collect school fees and are forced to remain at home for long periods of time while I look for means to pay. This money will come in handy in relieving me of these struggles
What is the happiest part of your day?
As I wake up in the morning,I focus on providing for my family. After finishing my house chores,I set out to look for a casual job to do.This can sometimes be weeding, harvesting or planting. When I am able to get one,I assured of something to take home to my children. This makes me very happy because I would not want to see them sleep hungry
What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
My husband passed on in 2007 and at that time my children were still young.Since his demise,I have had to struggle on my own to provide all the basic needs and other costs that my family needs.I have children in secondary school and University.Raising their fees is ahuge struggle for me because I have no source of income except casual jobs e.g harvesting, weeding.I must struggle though because I would want to see my children get the right education so that they can be independent and support me as well in old age. This has been the biggest hardship I have faced
