How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
Previously, I did have a kitchen and my children did no place to sleep. My life is currently different because I bought building materials and built a new house for my son who had recently found a wife but had no place to stay and a kitchen for my children to sleep. I am forever grateful to GiveDirectly for giving my life direction.
In your opinion, what does GiveDirectly do well, and what does it not do well?
They have elevated my life from poverty. I now have a beautiful kitchen where my children can sleep. With the transfers, I bought building materials that I used to build a new kitchen because I did have one. My children now have a comfortable place to sleep and also read without stress. There is nothing that GD does wrong.
What did you spend your second transfer on?
The transfer has helped me rise from the gutters. I did not have a kitchen of my own and my children really needed a place to sleep. They used to sleep at my neighbour's place where lately they are being sent back that their place is too congested. I bought building materials like iron sheets, nails and timber using the transfer to build a kitchen as I did have one. My kids now have a place to sleep without stress or being sent away. I also have a son who got married but did not have a house to sleep in with his new bride. I used part of the transfer to buy building materials to build a new house for my son who did not have a house. I also bought livestock for rearing as financial security in future.

Describe the biggest difference in your daily life.
The biggest difference in my daily life is that my son and his wife has a house, they do not go to sleep in a neighbours home.
Describe the moment when you received your money. How did you feel?
When I received my transfer I jumped and screamed inside my house, I was very excited.
What did you spend your first transfer on?
I spent my transfer to buy iron sheets, nails and polls that I used to build my son a house because they used to sleep in a neighbour home. Their house got burnt down and from that time he has never gotten money to enable him to build a house. I also bought a cow because it will help me with land cultivation.

What does receiving this money mean to you?
Receiving this money means that I will be able to build a bigger house for my family, I will buy furniture which include seats and the remaining amount will be spent on buying a cow.
What is the happiest part of your day?
The happiest part of my day is in the morning when I go to my farm to plough my maize. This makes me happy as it suppliments my family's diet when I harvest the crops.
What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
The biggest hardship I face in my life is that our income is very low and my husband is unemployed hence getting money to buy food for the family on a daily basis is a challenge.
