So far, I can attest that truly my life is different from how it used to be ever since I began receiving these transfers. First, I have lived in town for a long time, without shelter in my rural home. This was making it hard for me to visit home because I had nowhere to sleep since, as per my tradition, am not allowed to sleep in the same house with my parents. After I started to receive this money, I began a project of constructing a new house which is now complete and ready for occupation. I am now happy that once in a while I visit my family, I will be having a comfortable place to rest. Secondly, I bought a dairy cow with which my family will be benefiting from milk that it will be producing hence this will greatly reduce family expenses. Thirdly, the transfers have enabled me to open a business of selling second clothes and shoes, which I operate in town, at least I get a good income through it. Lastly, it has enabled me to cater effectively for my daily needs as well as pay for my house rent.

My goal now is to ensure that I save enough money from the profits I generate from my second-hand clothes and shoe-selling business. The savings will help me to not only expand my business but also introduce different kinds of products which at the moment, I haven't settled on any. This will help me to maximise profits hence boost my income from this business.

I had planned to build a house in my rural home since I did not have one. When I received my most recent transfer, I spent KES 20000 to purchase enough building materials such as cement, iron sheets, nails, and other essentials as well as paid labour for construction. Besides, when I started receiving these transfers, I decided to venture into shoe-selling business and so I spent part of my recent transfer to purchase a bale of new shoes at KES 10000 to increase stock and also paid for rent at KES 9000 for the business premise. I spent the remaining amount to cater for my basic needs and other household expenses.

Currently, my life is different in that I have been able to pay my school fees on time which has made be attend school smoothly. The act of receiving GiveDirectly transfer has really motivated me to see the possibility of completing my college education that I wasn't certain of before. I believe through completing this course I will be able to get employed and assist my family with the provision of the basic needs because at the moment I cannot bear seeing them struggle to provide a better future for us.

Since childhood, my parents have been reminding me on the importance of education. One thing I have learnt from them is education never expires hence I have no additional goals but rather to focus on completing my college education. I believe through completing college I will be able to get employed and as assist my parent with the provision of my family's needs back at home because at the moment I cannot bear seeing them struggle to provide a better future for us.

I spent the larger portion of my transfer to pay my college fees 15,000 KES and now I am attending school smoothly because the arrears I have is meagre. The remaining amount I paid school fees for my brother and boosted my business of selling second-hand shoes as well.

My goals are to open a fruit pudding shop in Mathare 4A village where I live, and also to purchase a motorbike for transport services.

The biggest difference in my daily life is that I moved to a better house. I used to live in a house that had an earth floor, and I had a very old bed and mattress. Give Directly officers were also amazed at the conditions I lived in when they visited me at census. I now live in a better house with a new bed and mattress.

I spent part of my transfers to purchase uniform, school supplies, books, and a metal box for my younger brother who was joining high school. I am the first born in my family and so I have to support my siblings financially. I also spent my transfers to buy some house hold goods for my house such as a bed and a mattress. I had a very old bed and mattress that the screws in my bed would come out at times. I was very uncomfortable in this bed most of the time. I have been engaged in plumbing jobs mostly which force me to depend on my father for financial assistance most of the time, as I make very little from this jobs which are not always available. My father lives here in Mathare, but my mother is based in my rural home. My life will change as I intend to invest my coming transfers in a fruit business.

I was in my house sleeping on that morning when my landlord came knocking on my door to ask for rent. I had not paid my rent for two months as I had not made sufficient money in the months prior. On that morning, I did not have any money, even to buy food. The landlord angrily ordered me out of his house as he had run out of patience with me. I packed my few belongings in his house and just as I had everything out and he locked his door, the message from Give Directly came in. It was like a miracle, I was so happy. I left that house and found a different house though.
