How is your life currently different from how it was four months ago?
My life is different from how it would have been four months ago in that bought materials which I used to replace my old roof. I have been living in a grass thatched. I have always desired to have an iron roof just like my neighbors. I could not manage because my income from casual work was not enough to help me meet all needs. Through the transfers, I was able to raise money to buy iron sheets, timber, and nails which I have used on replacing the old grass roof I had before the transfers. Thank God for GD.
Do you have any new or additional goals for your life for the next four months?
My new goal in the next four months is to start sardines business. This is because I would want to improve my financial life. I can only achieve this by having a stable source of income which is only a business. I know through the business I will have a stable source of income to help me establish myself in the carpentry job.
Describe the biggest difference in your daily life in the last four months preceding the current transfer.
The biggest difference in my daily life since I started receiving these transfers is that I no longer depend on income from casual work. I have been using part of my monthly transfers to pay for carpentry training which I have completed. I am now a carpenter which I do as my main source of income. This has changed my life totally because income from casual work was not consistent and I would struggle to make ends meet. Since I started the carpentry job, life has been smooth and I know it will get better when I establish myself in the business.

How is your life currently different from how it was four months ago?
Life was stagnant before the transfers, I did not have even have good clothes to put on. I had to beg for clothes from my friends whenever I had an important journey to attend to. This was embarrassing because I had to depend on their mercy. I was at risk of contacting skin disease since I had to exchange clothes with different people. After I had bought building materials and built a house, I decided to buy myself some clothes so that I can look presentable and independent. At least my friends don't keep away from me because I don't bother them anymore with begging.
Do you have any new or additional goals for your life for the next four months?
In the next four months, I wish to start a cloth business. This is because I do not want to depend on casual work alone. The income from casual work is very little but I have a lot of demands since I am the one taking care of my mother. I would want to have a stable source of income to help me cater for our needs and I plan to better my future.
Describe the biggest difference in your daily life in the last four months preceding the current transfer.
Before the transfers, I used to live in a grass thatched house with a leaking roof. This is because I did not have any stable source of income to help me buy quality building materials to build a good house. I was not even able to buy grass to renovate the leaking roof. I have given up on having a good house. Life was difficult especially during the rainy season because the house was full of water and had to drain the water myself. Since I started receiving these transfers, I was able to buy building materials such as iron sheets, nails, and timber which I have used to build a new house. I no longer have the stress I used to when it was the rainy season in my area. I feel at peace now. Thanks to Give Directly.

Describe the biggest difference in your daily life since you started receiving payments from GiveDirectly.
The biggest difference in my life since I started receiving these transfers is that I have a new iron roof. I used to leave in a grass thatched house which was leaking and I had a lot of my household items destroyed because of the leaking roof. There was one time I left my phone in the house and when I came back, I found my phone rained on and could not work anymore. I had to buy a new one and the same has happened to my seats. I wanted to have a new house but due to no income, I was not able to. With GD transfers, I have been able to buy iron sheets, nails and timber which I used to put up an iron roof. I no longer go through the hardship as was the case before the transfers.
How do you expect your life to change in the next six months?
In the next six months, I would want to buy a goat. This will help me raise money to solve other family needs as I seek to develop my own carpentry business. This is an investment whose values increase on a daily basis and can help me raise money to pay school fees for my children before my business stabilises.
How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
Apart from putting up a new roof, I have always had my own money to sort most of my personal problems without having to beg from friends or family. Since I did not have any source of income, I used to depend on my friends by having to seek help and I ended up having a lot of debts which I could not pay. With transfers, I have been able to pay all my debts and I no longer depend on my family and friends to sort my issues. I am financially independent because of GD transfers.
Do you have any new goals that you didn't have before receiving the transfer?
In the four months, I would want to start a carpentry business. This is my area of specialization and because I did not have any income, I could not get employed or even start my own business. I would want to use part of the transfers to buy equipment which I will use to start my own carpentry business so as to get a stable source of income to sustain my family needs.
