How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
I would like to finish up my house, previously I had started with the project but the money was not enough to complete it. I would also like to buy land to cultivate on, currently, we are using my father-in-law.
In your opinion, what does GiveDirectly do well, and what does it not do well?
Sending unconditional cash transfers to us is a plus for the organization. Also sending the money directly to us is another win for us because we received all the money intended to help us.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
At the time I was receiving my second transfer my baby was hospitalized due to chest part. Doctors did some tests and diagnosed him with asthma. I spent $75 on medical expenses. My husband and I have lived together for two years and he has not paid for my dowry. He has been getting pressure from my family and I decided to give him $250 to go pay my dowry. The rest of the money was used on food.

Describe the moment when you received your money. How did you feel?
I was very shocked when I received the funds from give directly because I thought it was a hoax. After confirming that it was indeed true, I felt very happy and thankful as at the time I only had KES 100 and there was no food in the house, this could not even be enough to buy a packet of maize flour. So, I immediately called my husband to inform him that I had received my transfer, who then advised me to take KES 1,000 from it and buy some sustenance then once he gets back, we shall brainstorm on the best way to utilize it.
Describe the biggest difference in your daily life since you started receiving payments from GiveDirectly.
The greatest difference I have seen in my life ever since I started receiving these funds from given directly, is having electricity connected to my home. This was something I had desired for a very long time. But I never got the chance to do so as I couldn't raise KES 23000 to cover the installation fee. The little I had, I would direct it towards my children's school fees and buying food for my family. It is without a doubt that God has been faithful to me through this organization.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
I am a Muslim, and it was during Ramadan when these funds came in. I did not have any food in the house and neither did I have money to purchase some. My two children also had one pair of school uniforms to wear to school. This was very hard to work with and I needed them to have at least two pairs. In addition to this, my house never had any electricity making it impossible for my children to study during the night and I also desired to plaster my two-bedroomed house. So, when I got the funds, I got to accomplish most of these. The very first thing I did was restock my house with some nourishments, I then made arrangements to connect my house with electricity which cost me KES 23000, and bought my two children, each a pair of uniforms. The amount that remained was not enough to plaster my house. I, therefore, opted to save it and when I get my next transfer, I will have enough funds to facilitate it

What does receiving this money mean to you?
I have been having an imagination of my house I desire to live in and the house currently I have needs some redesigning to make my imaginations into actuality. The house need plastering, floor, four windows for aeration and new beddings. Receiving this money means using 50,000 KES to actualize my dream house.
What is the happiest part of your day?
My second born,Naheed, who schools at Migumomiri Primary school became position one in his Pre-primary level one. This made me joyful and happy as I have always been teaching him while at home.I felt my efforts were not in vain.
What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
I currently do not have a toilet.I always defecate in the bushes and it is really annoying me as at times I am seen naked by people I respect them. I cover a long distance to fetch water from the water pan and this makes me waste a lot of time and because of the hot scorching sun,the water pan is now drying up. My family depend on subsistence farming to get maize that can last us up to the subsequent harvesting season but because of the failure of rains last year,2021,I was not able to harvest anything and things are not the same as the little money I get I am using all of it on food.
