How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
Looking at the great work that GiveDirectly has done to us, I can't imagine how life would have been if we would not have received the transfer. The new house which I have constructed, the medication which I sought using giveDirectly money and the school fees which I cleared for my son would not have happened. It is indeed clear that my son would have dropped from school and my health condition would have deteriorated the most since I would not have gotten the required medical attention. Thank you GiveDirectly for considering to work in our village.
In your opinion, what does GiveDirectly do well, and what does it not do well?
I am really thankful since the transfers really enabled me to build a new house. My children and visitors used to sleep in the neighbor's place. I received the money when I was very sick which helped me a lot in seeking medication. I used the money in clearing the hospital bills which would have been harder if I had never received.
What did you spend your second transfer on?
I was really very happy when I was enrolled as a beneficiary of GiveDirectly. That set me into planning on how I will spend my money since I was very sure I would receive after enrollment. We never waited for too long before receiving the first transfer. We put the money into use as we had planned and even before exhausting that first transfer, the second transfer was already in our accounts. With the second transfer, we decided to spend part of it on constructing a new house. We had to purchase 20 iron sheets, nails, woods, and also paid the constructor. We spent part of the remaining on paying school fees, food and also in seeking medication since I was really sick when I received the money.

Describe the biggest difference in your daily life.
The biggest difference in my daily life is that I got a big boost financially. This was the first time in my life to receive such an amount of cash. It has enabled me to start building a house and pay fee without hustle. I would not have achieved such at ago had GiveDirectly not send us the transfer. I was also able to get attended to in hospital without having to borrow from people.
Describe the moment when you received your money. How did you feel?
I received the funds at daybreak. I was excited knowing that it was going to change our lives for the better as a family.
What did you spend your first transfer on?
I was ill when the funds from GiveDirectly arrived, so I used some of the funds to go to hospital and on medication. I was bed-ridden during enrollment and I am grateful that GD sent us the funds. I am now progressing well and feeling stronger. I also bought building materials to build a semi-permanent iron roofed house. We have been living in one thatched house and we felt we needed a spacious better one. I also paid school fee for my son in secondary school; a full term is now catered for courtesy of GD. We then bought maize because we did not have food. We are thankful.
