How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
My life has improved in that, I renovated my house. Previously, I lived in a dusty house which was not cemented because I couldn't afford renovating it for lack of money. Secondly, I regained ownership for my acre of land that I gave as collateral for the loan I collected. Before, I cultivated on only two acres of land that couldn't yield enough food for my family.
In your opinion, what does GiveDirectly do well, and what does it not do well?
GiveDirectly has done well by giving me the unconditional cash transfers that have changed my life for the better. There is nothing bad that it has done.
What did you spend your second transfer on?
I used my second transfer for renovating the house and therefore had to buy sand, cement and pay the builders. In addition, I bought food, household goods such as utensils and beddings.

Describe the biggest difference in your daily life.
The biggest difference in my daily life is a feeling of relief after getting back my farm land that was almost impossible for me since that money was really much to raise. This is because not even cultivating for years would I raise it as I had a very small place to farm.
Describe the moment when you received your money. How did you feel?
On seeing my phone light up, I heard people making joyous noise and on checking my phone, I had also got my money. At that moment, I felt so happy. I had got much money! It would now help me solve some financial issues.
What did you spend your first transfer on?
I spent my first transfer Ugx 1090000 to get back my farm land that had been given out in exchange for money used for my father in law's funeral rights. I then bought some household items and needs such as utensils, bed blankets and food at Ugx 180000. I then booked sand at Ugx 150000 that I will use to plaster my house when I get my next transfer. I am saving up the balance of my transfer to cater for any arising issues.

What does receiving this money mean to you?
Receiving this money means buying bills that will support my household in opening up land for crop cultivation. I have been hiring bills for ploughing which is very expensive for me and not sustainable in any way.
What is the happiest part of your day?
I am happy in the morning while out in my garden to dig in good health. That is my joy because it is the only way towards my family's livelihood.
What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
Lack of enough land for crop ciltivation is my biggest challenge. I have only an acre of farm land which is not enough to produce food that will cater for my household needs.
