How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
My life is now different as compared to the period when GD had not yet come to my door step. I can now afford 3 meals a day because i bought enough food for my family. Secondly, Iam also putting up at a very comfortable and conducive place because of the mattresses and other beddings which I have bought using this money from GiveDirectly. May you continue the good work to other equally poor people in Malawi and beyond.
In your opinion, what does GiveDirectly do well, and what does it not do well?
GiveDirectly in my opinion is the best organisation in as far as cash transfers are concerned. Their procedure of targeting prospective recipients is second to none. There is no bias and other external forces in registering beneficiaries.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
When i got my second teandfer i bought construction materials to add on those i had already purchased using the first transfer. I bought iron sheets and 6 bags of cement. This means that any moment from now i will start building the house as i have already identified the builder. I also spent part of the transfer on mattresses and some money was saved for labour and other expenditures when building commences.

Describe the moment when you received your money. How did you feel?
My joy was immense upon receiving the money, it is the same feeling that everyone in my community has. Everybody is happy and the mood of our area has improved.
Describe the biggest difference in your daily life since you started receiving payments from GiveDirectly.
The biggest difference has been that feeling of finally building a house and living comfortably . It has always been my desire and am happy it is going to be fulfilled.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
In my quest to have a comfortable house, I decided to build one once the rains are over. I bought iron sheets and other necessary materials. The other money was spent on mattress, clothes and household utensils which I was also lacking. I also managed to secure two goats as an investment in the future to sell if things get tough financially.

What does receiving this money mean to you?
The money will go towards building a good house for me and my family. We always struggle every rainy season since the house leaks a lot. The other money will go towards buying clothes for me and my children as well as other house utensils.
What is the happiest part of your day?
Evenings are the happiest part of my day since it's the time I tend to have confidence that I have done enough to look for food for my children during the day. This applies whether we find food or not but at least the effort is what matters to me when am resting.
What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
Poverty has been my biggest hardship. Since the time I separated from my husband, life has been tough and situation got worse to afford food for me and my family. I now depend on seeking piece works in people's gardens mostly so that I can afford money to buy food for that day.
