How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
I am Hawa Konnah from Jawai town Bomi county, Liberia. I planned to buy two doors and invest in agriculture before receiving my last cash transfer.
In your opinion, what does GiveDirectly do well, and what does it not do well?
In my opinion, it is due to Givedirectly cash transfer that I have my own house, cassava farm, and my kids are in school this academic semester. I am so glad that such a creditable organization is in Liberia. Their Staff are respectful and they don't accept gift from people. I have not heard of anything that Givedirectly didn't do well in this village. Many thanks and appreciation to Givedirectly and those that contributed in making my dream come true.

Describe the moment when you received your money. How did you feel?
How I felt when I received my first transfer from GiveDirectly: On October 16, 2021 around 10:00 AM, my husband and I were on our farm making charcoal for sale; then a man from the next town called yarmu town was passing our direction and he told us that they have received money from GiveDirectly on their mobile money accounts; that we should check our phone too to see if we have received our own. As soon he told us, we hurriedly left the work we were doing on the farm and went to our house to check the phone. When we checked the phone, we saw a transfer message from GiveDirectly indicating that we have received $40,375.00 LD. We were very happy that day and grateful for the money.
Describe the biggest difference in your daily life since you started receiving payments from GiveDirectly.
The biggest difference in my daily life since I started receiving payments from GiveDirectly: During the begining of every school year, my husband and I will always worry and struggle to pay our children school fees; but now through the help from GiveDirectly, we are not under pressure to make charcoal and fufu to raise money for our children school expenses. Even if we make charcoal and fufu for sale, we can use the money to settle other little issues in our home.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
What I spend my most recent transfer on: My husband and I have decided to use the money for our three children school expenses because we believed that if our children are educated, they will have good jobs in the future to help us. Over the years, my husband and I have been making charcoal and fufu for sale to send our children to school but the money sometime aren't enough to settle the expenses; at times, we can pay the school fees little by little until the school year ends.

What does receiving this money mean to you?
I have been trying to build a house for my family and I in Monrovia but due to the hard time, I haven't been able to finish it, so is I am successful for this program, I will use some of the money to finish my house and also use some to sent my children to school and also make business.
What is the happiest part of your day?
One thing that have brought me Joy and happiness is that, since I have known my self I haven't been able to build anything for myself so after my husband aunty give us a piece of land to built our house, we were able to build it to roof level, even though it is not yet completed; This alone has brought me Joy.
What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
We are faced with many challenges in this home but the major one is, we don't have much to feed our family based on the number of persons in our family. Another one is health, as you can see my father in law who is staying with us in this home, he is not well, so taking him to the hospital or clinic is another expenses that can give us hard time.
