How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
After a satisfying investment that I had after receiving the first and the second transfer, I now have a new goal to improve my livestock farming by first constructing a cowshed with decent roofing that can still be functional during rainy seasons. I will also construct feeding troughs to enhance efficient and clean feeding for my livestock.
In your opinion, what does GiveDirectly do well, and what does it not do well?
In my opinion, the transfers I received both from the first and the second transfer played a critical role in transforming my household and also the whole village. The construction of houses, purchase of livestock, and also investment in crop farming were superb. This was a perfect engagement by GiveDirectly that ensured that the promises we had been given were successfully honored on the stated timelines - making it much different from any other project we have ever seen around.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
The start of the construction of a new house that I started with the first transfer brought other good things after. Even though I was not able to complete the furnishing of the house with the first transfer, the second one got me covered. I still needed some iron sheets that cost KES 9000 and also paid the remaining labor charge of KES 6000. I then purchased a large water tank with a capacity of 3000 liters with a worth of KES 18000. This has saved me a great deal in that I am no longer walking a long distance to fetch water but the gutters I placed around the roof convey clean rainwater direct to the tank. I spent part of the remaining amount on constructing a base of the new tank, which cost approximately KES 3000 after settling the labor charges, bought some kitchen wares that included cooking pots, cutleries, utensils, and other household goods that we never had in our household.

Describe the moment when you received your money. How did you feel?
The moment I received the transfer I felt so happy. I remember it was around 9 am when I heard a message tone from my phone. I was taking care of my goats. When I checked it out I felt so happy. It was a message confirming that I have received money from GiveDirectly. I immediately inform my family members and they were so happy too. I knew I would be able to renovate my house to look much decent that before.
Describe the biggest difference in your daily life since you started receiving payments from GiveDirectly.
The biggest difference in my daily life is that I was able to renovate the roofing of my house. I used to live in house with old iron sheets. I depend on casual jobs in the village and the small amount of money that I get through this is so small and it's only for household. I didn't had any other source of income. Whenever there was rain it was not any easy task. The water could enter inside the house. Currently I have decent house and the I no longer get worried whenever the rain comes. This Is because GiveDirectly has enabled us to purchase the iron sheet and replace the old one which was worn out. My children are so happy because they also received the transfer. I have never received such amount of money that and I am so happy and grateful for the support.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
I spent all the first transfer to renovate my house. I had always wished to do this but it was not possible because I didn't had the money. The iron sheet of my roof was so old and worn out. I could be rain on sometimes. This was so demoralizing and I wanted to replace the old iron sheet. My house now looks so good after the renovation.

What does receiving this money mean to you?
My biggest plan, for now, is to renovate my current house which the roof is leaking making it very uncomfortable to live in. The house is old and since the roofing is old, I cannot harvest rainwater. This will cost me 50 dollars. For the remaining amount, I'll purchase a water tank since the one I have is small, it cannot store enough water for domestic use and farm use. This will also cost me 30 dollars.
What is the happiest part of your day?
My happiest part of the day is in the afternoon when am done with the day's work. At this time I get to rest and plan my other duties, reading the Bible and preparing sermons since I'm a pastor. The days are usually spent on my farm in the mornings.
What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
The biggest hardship has been a lack of finances. Since my husband passed on 25 years ago, I have been struggling alone to put my three children through school. Being a peasant farmer, depending entirely on my small farm, I haven't been able to save up enough to build myself a decent house or renovate the one I currently live in, which is already leaking.
