Describe the moment when you received your money. How did you feel?
It was around 8 Am I was doing my morning chores at home when I heard a message notification. When I checked it out it was a message confirming that I have received money from GiveDirectly. I felt so happy and felt so grateful because I have never received such an amount of money before. I immediately informed my spouse and he was so happy as well. We knew we would be able to purchase a dairy cow. This was our priority since we used to buy milk daily and it was so costly for us. We went to withdraw the money the same day and planned as a family.
Describe the biggest difference in your daily life since you started receiving payments from GiveDirectly.
purchasing a dairy cow is the biggest difference in my daily life. This is because I used to buy milk daily and this was so costly for me. We had always wished to own a cow but we had no money to buy it. We depend mostly on casual jobs in the village. The money that we get through this is so small and it was only for the basic needs and school fees for our children. We had no extra money to save so we can buy a dairy cow. Whenever we had no money our children would go without milk and this was so demoralizing. Currently, we have a dairy cow and our children get enough milk. I can save the money that I could have used in purchasing milk for other basic needs of the family. I no longer get worried like before since GivDirectly has fulfilled my dream. I will sell the extra milk to earn an income. I am so grateful for the support because GiveDirectly has improved our living standards.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
I spend KES 25,000 on purchasing a dairy cow. This was one of the main focuses since the cost of buying milk daily is so expensive. We had always wished to buy a dairy cow but we could not afford it. We do not have a continuous source of income. Currently, we get enough milk for the family and we are no longer worried. I spend KES 2,000 on school fees for my children in primary school. They are studying well now without being sent home like before. The rest of the money I spend on food and clothes for my children. I am so grateful for the support.

What does receiving this money mean to you?
Receiving money from give directly will change my life, I will be able to upgrade the kitchen we are using because the one we own is in a bad condition, I will spend KES 10,000 to build it. I am planning on spending KES 35,000 to buy a dairy cow, this will enable us to get milk which will improve my children's nutrition status. Getting a sufficient balanced diet has been a challenge therefore I will spend KES 10,000 to buy nutritional food products such as fruits and vegetables. The remaining money I plan on buying my children clothes and shoes, the ones they have are old and torn.
What is the happiest part of your day?
We had a merry-go-round with our neighbors, I received KES 3000. This enabled my family to have food and other basic needs like books and pens for the school-going children. This brought so much joy because I saw my family smile.
What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
My biggest challenge at the moment is the lack of sufficient food for the family this is due to a lack of stable and reliable, source of income since I depend on casual jobs like plowing neighbors' land.
