Before I could start receiving my transfer, I have been planning to build a house but I had no money to undertake the project. With the support of Give Directly, I was able to buy house materials and I am planning to renovate my house.

Describe the moment when you received your money. How did you feel?
I was in my house when I received an alert on my phone that GiveDirectly has sent me a transfer. Upon seeing the transfer on my phone, I was very happy at that moment because I have been struggling all through to renovate my house and sustain my family. I have to farm and produce charcoal before I can earn money on my own and I sometimes find it hard to get buyers to buy my charcoal. I'm happy and I remain thankful to GD for coming to our aid.
Describe the biggest difference in your daily life since you started receiving payments from GiveDirectly.

What does receiving this money mean to you?
I will construct a little decent house for myself and also upgrade the little business I am doing, if I do receive the cash grant form GiveDirectly. It has been my plan to build my own house but it has just been challenging to begin the process due to lack funding. My brothers and I lived in our grandmother's old house that is very deplorable now. In effort to support my plan of have a house constructed, I have made a very large cassava farm to get some building materials after the harvest. I have an eleven (11) year old daughter who is going to school. When I upgrade the business, it will help to keep her in school and also take care of our very day's wants and some times needs.
What is the happiest part of your day?
In the month of April, 2021, I accumulated the sum of $ 9,000 LRD from the sale of my corn farm. This was actually my happy time. I was happy because, I used the money to buy a big of slippers to sell and from the sale, I was able to complete the payment of my daughter school fees. That alone encouraged me to keep focus on my garden work to support my child in school. It is my desire to fully support my daughter to the higher level of education since I was not given that opportunity. It is clear that, my old age will be better through her if I quality education.
What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
In our community we are faced with a lot of hardships but the major one I am experiencing now is financial hardship. As for me, I am not letter. Therefore, I have no employment. I only survive on hard labour and invest the earning in to agriculture ( garden). Due to lack of employment, the garden work is at a very lower scale. Most often, people loan me cash to pay my daughter's tuition and either work for it later or exchange my farm products for it. However, if I am successfully enrolled in to Givedirectly program, it will empower me to improve in every little activity I am involved with on a better scale for sustainability.
