How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
I now have a powersaw which has employed my husband as the operator of this machine. Additionally, the business is currently the main source of income for the family. Had it not for the tranfers, I would not have built a house for our son who is currently in school had no house to sleep and study. Again, the money facilitated payment of his school fees. Nowadays,he is not sent home every now and then.
In your opinion, what does GiveDirectly do well, and what does it not do well?
Givedirectly does good by offering financial support to poor people to help them rise beyond their means in terms of unconditional cash transfers. There is really nothing that GD does wrong!
What did you spend your second transfer on?
I spent the entire transfer in buying a power saw which is currently being in used as source of income. Equally, the powersaw business has employed my spouse since he is the one operating it.

What does receiving this money mean to you?
Receiving this money means I will be able to buy a dairy cow. This will go a long way in supporting my family financially, especially to cater for my children's school fees.
What is the happiest part of your day?
The happiest part of my day is in the evening with my family. Having came home with food for my children gives me a peace of mind.
What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
I have 8 children and all of them are in school, one of which is in secondary school. With dependency on one dairy cow and and casual jobs in the village, the dues we get cannot sustain my children through school. As a matter of fact, my second born daughter had to forgo joining secondary school this year after sitting for the Kenya Certificate of Primary Education examination due to lack of funds. Not being able to sustain my family needs has been the biggest hardship in my life.
