Describe the moment when you received your money. How did you feel?
I had no food in my house and i just depended on daily buying. So when i received the money i was so happy as i knew that i will buy enough food a longer period of time.
Describe the biggest difference in your daily life since you started receiving payments from GiveDirectly.
The biggest difference in my daily life is having to eat enough food and 3 meals in a day which was not possible before receiving the transfer. Thank you for your support
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
I used the money to buy a mattress, 7 bags of maize, 7 iron sheets, 4000 bricks and household groceries such as soap, salt and sugar

What does receiving this money mean to you?
I am very happy and excited to be included in this program. I have been failing to renovate my house and build a toilet for my house among other challenges I face. This program will now enable me to achieve these ambitions and am very thankful. I also believe this money will enable me to have adequate food too for this year and also add some money to my struggling doughnuts business. Most of the times I make around 5,000 kwacha per day and this is used carefully for about a week before I make others.
What is the happiest part of your day?
I am just happy that I get to have some money to buy extra necessities at home such as soap, cooking oil and some shoes though they are never enough. All this is possible because I never get very sick to fail to do some chores as well as business. I am also very happy as my mother is still around although our father passed away.
What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
I usually get sick most of the times and whenever I visit the hospital, they do not diagnose the actual disease. Sometimes food is even scarce such that I have to stop the business and engage in exra casual labour to supplement what I make via the doughnuts business.
